Just finished #thingsyousavebook #tysiaf #arc thank you @StMartinsPress for this opportunity; this isn‘t my typical genre of book but when someone takes the time, money and effort to send a free ARC reading it is the least I can do. But I really enjoyed this book - couldn‘t put it down for the last half of the book. It‘s both light and deeply significant, a romance but with a fresh plot and perspective. I give this a solid 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I‘ve read all 3 of her books now and Jane Harper is an an amazing author. This book (more than the others, to my recollection) really excelled at character development. I can‘t wait to read whatever she writes next. A solid 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for sure - couldn‘t put it down for the last half.

Nute It‘s pretty cool to experience an author‘s growth in their craft. I haven‘t read any of her books yet, but it seems that now is a good time to start. 7mo

Tomigirl44 @Nute @Reagan-reads 🙌 yes, now would be a good time to start reading Harper - I think she‘s going to be around for awhile 😁; this book was fascinating to me in that there wasn‘t a whole lot of action but the plot and characters were compelling - I can understand why it‘s in your top 5 for the year thus far 7mo

My first author/book signing event I‘ve attended and it was great. I was able to read an advance copy which made it even more fun to hear her read from her book, and then buy a copy to be signed and I‘ll get to read it as a genuine book; my advance copy was only on my laptop but I couldn‘t put it down and finished it in less than 25 hours - excited to read it again as a luxuriant hardcover 📖😊

I love Backman‘s books, but I have not been impressed by his short stories. I think there are only 2 books of his I haven‘t read now (Ove and sequel to Bear Town), and they are marvelous. His short stories seem more sedate and pedantic, but because I love his books so much I will always give him the benefit of the doubt and read anything he writes.

TheBookAddict A Man Called Ove had me laughing or crying at every turn of the page. I just loved it. I need to read the rest of his books. (edited) 11mo

Tomigirl44 @LibrarianJen @AnansiGirl 😁 It‘s exactly how it feels to me - when it‘s an ebook (Kindle) they can just take it away, instead of incurring a late fee (although I‘ve never returned a book late - I‘m kind of obsessive/anxious about my library books and not being overdue with them). I met Britt-Marie in a previous book and I‘m only 10% into it so far, but she‘s hilarious (without meaning to be); Backman has such a gift for descriptions. His books are like a drink of cold water on a hot summer day after mowing the lawn with a push mower - I just sink into them and enjoy them so much.

MelissaSue81 Maybe an unpopular opinion but I just was never able to like Britt Marie. She was so Rotten in grandmother... I kept holding a grudge. 11mo
Booksnchill Loved Britt-Marie in this book- haven‘t read the other. 11mo
Tomigirl44 @MelissaSue81 I was reluctant to read this book for the very same reason, but thankfully it‘s been long enough that my memories of “grandmother” have faded and I‘m able to experience Britt-Marie as a quirky/crazy character who would drive me crazy but is hilarious to observe at arms‘ length (through a book). And @Booksnchill maybe you‘ll be predisposed to like B-M more since you know her well from this book - the grandmother is so funny! 11mo

This author excels @ describing a world the reader truly enters & becomes a part of. I‘d have enjoyed more of a compelling plot, as I found myself wanting to pick up the book & finish it before it was due back at the library but not being that captivated by the storyline to really want to keep reading. In the end I did plow through it and finished it before it was repo‘d by the library. I like this author (previously read G in Moscow); 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I am so over the unreliable narrator genre - I think it‘s the literary world‘s new Macarena or Gangnam style. That wouldn‘t be so bad but the author just seems to repeat the same stuff over and over with not much substance. Some of the subplots injected some interest, and I have to give credit for the unexpected twists and turns (some bordering on unbelievably so). I give this 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ but I‘m not sure I‘ll read any of her other future books.
