It starts off as pulsating thriller but slows down in many ways into an insightful portrait of a black woman‘s story as an FBI turned CIA freelance operative in the late 1980s. Lots of back story, interpersonal relationships, and espionage. Not all of it engaging. It‘s a solid 3-star book.
Love this Emerson quote inside Nina LaCour‘s book We Are Okay. #quotestoliveby #saturdayreads #weekendreads
Different and refreshing take on the disappearance storyline. I liked how social media played both a good and scary part in this work.
This book is a real eye opener. If you‘re like me and don‘t know much about the Flint (MI) water crisis, then please pick this one up. Informative and compelling, it‘s a fantastic testament to the power of doing the right thing against the odds. Dr Mona is an inspiring person throughout this story.
Elegant, spare story of a 60ish private investigator who tracks down a young woman‘s long thought dead father. But is he? #booksandtea #reading #peterheller #privateinvestigator #weekendread

4.5/5 it took awhile to get from library — probably everyone‘s read this LOL... surprised me. Well rounded characters, especially loved Mia, Izzy, and Pearl. I loved how familiar this story felt, yet it was just off from stereotype. Highly recommended!!

This impressed me greatly. A beautiful sentiment on one‘s own purpose in life. #hugocabret #booksandtea #afternoonreading
Not good, folks. Not good. I‘m 50 pages in. There‘s a barely perceptible level of interest to keep going. It‘s a cool premise with some realistic scenarios, primarily how much corporations will sink their teeth into the Moon business. So far: I partially like the lead Jazz. She basically Mark Watney but female and Saudi. Not much else separates them.
"He was sick of all his music, five thousand songs and not a damn thing to listen to" ??? been there!
"How did they even know I was gay?" He asked this from his front porch, wearing a kimono. -- best LOL line yet!
I'm laughing & snickering & loving this debut effort! A perfect companion for a beach weekend :)
Timely story of a young girl witnessing the shooting death of her friend and the aftermath. Deals with race, class identity, family, friendships, and just growing up in a harsh world. Highly recommended to everyone!
Beautiful. Poignant. Magical. This book transcends cultures, nationalities, backgrounds, and lifetimes. I love how it doesn't matter what you're life story, at some point, you get what these characters are going through.
Chosen for its cover. Read for the story. Halfway through & it's still good! Could have used a little editing - buttttt the prose is beautiful :) #lainitaylor #youngadult #weekendreading #strangethedreamer #booksandtea
Loved this book! I read the last 100 pages so fast I got a headache. Superb effort & I am seeking out #planetfall.
Wolves have nothing at all to do with humans, actually. If they can help it, they avoid them.
