Little Fires Everywhere (Signed)
Little Fires Everywhere (Signed) | Celeste Ng
From the bestselling author of Everything I Never Told You, a riveting novel that traces the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and the enigmatic mother and daughter who upend their lives"I read Little Fires Everywhere in a single, breathless sitting." -Jodi Picoult "Witty, wise, and tender. It's a marvel." - Paula Hawkins In Shaker Heights, a placid, progressive suburb of Cleveland, everything is planned - from the layout of the winding roads, to the colors of the houses, to the successful lives its residents will go on to lead. And no one embodies this spirit more than Elena Richardson, whose guiding principle is playing by the rules. Enter Mia Warren - an enigmatic artist and single mother - who arrives in this idyllic bubble with her teenaged daughter Pearl, and rents a house from the Richardsons. Soon Mia and Pearl become more than tenants: all four Richardson children are drawn to the mother-daughter pair. But Mia carries with her a mysterious past and a disregard for the status quo that threatens to upend this carefully ordered community. When old family friends of the Richardsons attempt to adopt a Chinese-American baby, a custody battle erupts that dramatically divides the town--and puts Mia and Elena on opposing sides. Suspicious of Mia and her motives, Elena is determined to uncover the secrets in Mia's past. But her obsession will come at unexpected and devastating costs. Little Fires Everywhere explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, and the ferocious pull of motherhood - and the danger of believing that following the rules can avert disaster.

Reading Little Fires Everywhere, Flood Girls, listening to Milkman and Say Nothing. Two 5 stars this year: Frankissstein and In the Dream House. 3. When I order a book from Thriftbooks in”good” condition and it definitely is not. Warped from water damage is not in “good condition!” #weekendreads @rachelsbrittain

I decided I needed to read this book before the mini-series comes out on Hulu. And also, there is NOTHING quiet about walking into the library on crutches🤣🤣

Unpopular opinion: wasn‘t a fan of this book. I was so excited to read it after seeing the trailer but I found the book often dragged. I liked the overall theme and some of the individual story lines but at times it felt choppy and not developed enough. I also felt like the ending was rushed. I‘m still going to watch the show as I love Reese and Kerry but I could have passed on this book.

violabrain I agree with you 100%. 1d

Dammit. In my hasty repacking in the airport parking lot I left my library book The Flood Girls. Gah!!! A quick speed trip into the sparse Spokane airport travel mart and the 2 choices on my TBR list were Midnight in Chernobyl and Little Fires, a book club read a few months in the future. Didn‘t want to lug the Chernobyl book around for a two day work trip so here we are. Bring it on Celeste Ng!

marleed Oh I hate an airport repack! I hope you enjoy Little Fires though! 3d
Nikki_E This is the book I brought to the hospital with me when I was being induced. 3d

A very good read. A sad and intriguing look at suburban Utopia. I‘m still thinking about the ending. It will be interesting to see this as a tv series (I believe with Reese Witherspoon who I can completely believe as Mrs. Richardson). I enjoyed this on audiobook, which is done very well.

Scochrane26 I want to see this series, too. Kerry Washington is playing Mia. 1w
BkClubCare Oh. It‘s a series and not a film? I was all in a dither that I need to read this but I am not into a series idea. Hmmmmm 1w
Scochrane26 @BkClubCare I think it‘s a limited series. 1w

I was there for the art. I loved the way it added grace and compassion to some pretty unlikeable characters. I thought it worked marvellously to challenge my cynical self. Also a beautifully chaotic counter point to the planned city and surroundings.

I‘m really making it a point to read my older #BOTM books. I really enjoyed this one. I wanted to strangle Mrs. Richardson by the end of the book. I‘m looking forward to watching the show on Hulu now. 4🌟🌟🌟🌟

LauraBrook I have the same goal this year, to try and catch up with my BOTM‘s. I‘ve been a member for years and hardly read any of them. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 2w

Wow. I loved Ng‘s first book and I loved this one more. Her character are dynamic and her writing is beautiful and thoughtful. The book addressed a lot of things around perfectionism and rules that I‘ve been working through in therapy, which made it especially impactful. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I‘m challenging myself to read as many Reese‘s Book Club picks as I can this year! This one is first on the list.

marleed Oh I committed to the RW bookclub in 2019. I think I‘ve still got 2 to read before I‘m fully caught up. It‘s been fun to have no idea what‘s my homework assignment will be from month to month. I‘m reading her current pick now - lucky library drop for me! 3w
cleoh @marleed how great! So many of them look interesting and I never know what they‘re about 3w
marleed I follow her bookclub page on Instagram on the last day of the month so I can try to guess the book and put a library hold on it. Why am I so entertained by this! This time I didn‘t read a thing about the book beforehand so it been fun. I don‘t always love her books but I enjoy the surprise and reading them. I jumped on the Jenna Book Hager bookclub, as well. 3w

Oh wow. Celeste Ng did it again, crafting a story I didn‘t want to put down with characters I couldn‘t help but care about. As an elder millennial, I could place myself squarely into the lives of the teenage MCs, a delightful twist for me as a reader w r t perspective (for anyone wondering, I would have been classmates with Pearl & Moody.)

I know this one hasn‘t been everyone‘s cup of tea, but it was absolutely mine.

I read this while visiting my mom on a delayed holiday, so admittedly a story that explores motherhood and daughterhood, loyalty and love hit a little close to home, but I‘d recommend this novel regardless. Sure, there‘s some weirdness (some moments felt contrived on-the-spot to keep the story going) but the characters are like able enough to carry this somewhat whimsical exploration of culture, place and family. Love that it‘s in the 90s.
