The way Brendan Slocumb writes whenever Ray picks up the violin is utterly enchanting. You could omit the words ‘Ray picked up the violin‘ completely and know just by the way the words pick you up and start dancing around you. I listened to the audiobook, which has violins playing between each part. It is a wild story; parts of it were hard to believe, and other parts were rather predictable.

My kid loves graphic novels, but I had never read one. I heard about this graphic novel on bipolar Reddit and decided to try one out. It‘s pretty great.

It feels like a good time to reread Fahrenheit 451.

To close out Uganda for #foodandlit2023, we read A Good Trade and Beatrice‘s Goat. Both books center around the poverty and lack of education in Uganda, and both have white saviors. After reading these books, my daughter and I made paper beads while going on a Google Earth tour of Uganda. My oh my… sooo many churches.

My favorite bookstore is a small indie bookshop in St. Pete, FL, USA, called Tombolo Books! It‘s right next to my favorite coffee spot, which makes for very lovely (and sometimes expensive) Saturday mornings. Haha! @BennettBookworm #20kgiveaway

I was really excited about this one because I LOVED Book of Cold Cases. But I did not like this book. I would have bailed if it wouldn‘t have just ended. My copy from #libby had about 30 pages left when the story ended and I was scrolling though thinking I had to have missed something. It felt like more of a synopsis of a story than an actual story.

Was I going to make a witty post about this book? Yes. Am I too busy sitting on the floor crying my eyes out to do that? Also, yes.

As a bipolar person and someone who often suffers from bipolar disorder, some of Educated was emotionally difficult to read.

The manipulation and toxicity in how her family communicates remind me of my childhood. And my current life at times. Bible verses followed by eerily calm, casual conversations then threats and aggression, later followed by love and guilt stirs up so much emotion it makes me nauseous.

Peter Brown lyrically tells the story of Roz, a farm robot. Recently refurbished, Roz is determined to find her way back home to her son. Like in book 1, Roz teaches essential lessons and pulls on your heartstrings along her many adventures. I read this aloud along with my 7-year-old. She and I both LOVE both The Wild Robot and The Wild Robot Escapes!

I found this book in a Little Free Library. I was still thinking about Sue Kidd‘s The Book of Longings and was excited to see Omeria seemed to take place in a similar period and have parallel themes.

That being said, this book is one I have not stopped thinking about. I read Omeria Book 1 mid-year, and I find my mind wandering back to the story time and time again, wondering what happens to Omneta, the bull dancers, and their people.

While reading Girly Drinks, I grew increasingly interested in the books O‘Meara mentions. And my husband found them for me!! I can not wait to go through Beeton‘s Household Management and Bartenders Guide!

I started reading Stephen King in November of this year. I read Later first, followed by Shawshank Redemption, then I picked up 11/22/63. 11/22/63 was my last and favorite book of 2022. I fell in love with the characters. I even found myself (momentarily)empathizing with the characters I thought I would hate. I was completely drawn into this story and found myself fantasizing about a time filled with cigarette smoke and absent of social media.
