I knew nothing about this going in and I loved it! A straight thriller with wonderful characters and great story. 5 ⭐ narration, very refreshing after the soulless narration by Franco on Dead Zone

King Sorrow | Joe Hill

Listened to a great chat with Joe Hill. He shared some great stories about his career, his new book, and gave some hints for his upcoming work. He said starting with King Sorrow, he is aiming for a book a year for the next ten years!

AmyG Good news! Have you read this book yet? 5d
TieDyeDude @AmyG No, and the autograph line after the Q&A was obnoxious... 5d

Luke-XVX I‘m hoping for new comics from him soon! 5d
JenlovesJT47 What‘s your favorite Joe Hill book? I‘m rather partial to Heart-Shaped Box, but I‘ve only read a few of his. I read Horns first, had no idea who he was, and kept saying to myself, man his writing style really reminds me of Stephen King! 😆 I was shook when I found out. Love the Locke & Key series. 5d
TheBookHippie Oh how fun!!! 5d
Amiable Wow, he looks like his dad. 😳😄 5d
TieDyeDude @JenlovesJT47 I've only read Heart Shaped Box and some of his comics and short stories. Locke & Key is amazing. I want to read more, but I've been focusing on reading some of his dad's older books with #losersclub 🤷 Some of his upcoming books sounded really cool, though 22h
TieDyeDude @Luke-XVX It didn't sound like he had anything lined up since he's trying to release a novel each year of his fifties. He said working on multiple titles at the same time and meeting deadlines was extremely taxing. 22h
TieDyeDude @Amiable His body even seems to be aging the same way, rounding neck, boney shoulders 😅 22h
JenlovesJT47 I‘m still working my way through his dad‘s books. I‘ve read about 50 but there are so many! And I really need to get to Joe Hill‘s other books. So many books, so little time!! 🤓 21h
Luke-XVX @TieDyeDude that‘s fair. His wife is from my home town so he‘s in the area a lot apparently so I hope to catch him in the local indie bookshop signing bits for them! One day! 2m

Welcome to the #LosersClub open discussion for #firestarter
Please be mindful of spoilers. We have new readers to King who haven‘t read all of his books. When referencing his other work, please keep this in mind for our new-to-King friends. Don‘t forget to tag each other in the comments so your friends can see your reply. Have fun!

Bookwormjillk I loved this one as a teen. I used to sit with my friend Amy trying to set things on fire with our minds for hours. It was the super power I most wanted to have when I was about 13. I still liked it on this re-read, but I thought the middle dragged a bit. Not a bad ending for King.

Also I think the first season of Stranger Things owes this book a lot!

AllDebooks @Bookwormjillk yes, I found it a similar premise to ST. I loved the story and characters. I found it quite gripping in places. 5d

5feet.of.fury @Bookwormjillk yes! I thought it ended solidly, which he sometimes just doesn‘t do lol Agree about Stranger Things too. 5d
5feet.of.fury It‘s kind of smack between Carrie and The Institute both plotwise and character/scifi focussed. This was my first read of it, I just think it‘s neat 5d
ElizaMarie Wasn't able to re-read this one - I really need to organize my reading room - I know I had a copy of it somewhere! Anyway, I remember loving this one when I first read it, and as a fellow #KingGirlie I did the same @BookwormJillK 5d
bekakins Totally agree with the comments ref ST. This is one of my absolute favourites. 5d
kwmg40 Still waiting for a library loan, but I will get to this one eventually! 4d
TieDyeDude @5feet.of.fury I found I liked this more than Carrie. I don't remember The Institute enough to compare. But, yes, it was just really neat. As much as I love when he takes the time to build a town and it's inhabitants, with this and The Shining, I'm liking his more narrowly focused stories. 2d
5feet.of.fury @TieDyeDude the Institute was pretty much Stranger Things and you got the backstory on the whole town 😂 2d
BarkingMadRead @TieDyeDude 💯 they both have their pros and cons. This is one of my faves for sure 2d

Read for #losersclub @BarkingMadRead
An iconic King novel.
My first time reading this one, it was good. I thought it would be more like Carrie, but it has a wider reach as far as Charley‘s backstory and the conspiracy surrounding those that are seeking to stop/control her.

BarkingMadRead This one always gets me, it‘s so good and so scary 7d

I still like Firestarter. What‘s weird though is that I always forget how it ends. It does hit a bit differently with what‘s going on with the government now. Given how awful Rainbird was, I feel that his fate was a little glossed over. #audiowalk #LosersClub
