I enjoyed this one way more than I thought I would! I loved all of the characters, the cast was diverse in a way that seemed natural instead of heavy-handed, and the plot was so good that it had me blowing through the book in two days. Can't wait for the sequel!

Struggling to think of a review that isn't just incoherent screaming about how good this book is. A+ world building, great characters (esp our heroine), interesting magic systems, battles, court intrigues, *spoilers redacted* people, friendship, romance, and a hell of a plot. Go, read, now!

Hands down the best thing I've read all year. I never went more than ten pages or so without reading a passage that knocked me on my ass with how good it was (hence the lack of quotes from this one). Great historical fiction, great characters, great read.

Atkinson's gorgeous style is on full display here, but this book was just so damn grim that I had trouble enjoying it.

Such a fun book with so many interesting turns! It had the perfect amount of self-awareness for a retelling of a story where two teenagers kill themselves over someone they've known for three days. I did get a bit fatigued from trying to get all the endings, but that's my own fault.

I've been meaning to read this since I missed Aziz's panel at this year's ASA meeting, and I'm so glad I finally got around to it! Ansari blends his study's findings with his trademark humor seamlessly, coming off as casual yet informative. Also, glad (?) to know being single sucks for everyone.

One of the more interesting sections of Modern Romance thus far.

Historical fiction! With interesting characters and a complex (but not convoluted) plot! And believable fantasy elements! What I mean to say is, read this book.

I never thought anyone could make this incredibly messed up song funny but here we are, folks.

I get that ACD hated writing Holmes stories and just wanted to be Done, but his introduction of Moriarty is so hilariously lazy that I can't help but (fondly) side-eye him across the ages. (And yet here I am, reading and loving this book for like the third time.)

Honestly 85% of my training as a sociologist comes from Sherlock Holmes.

I really wanted to like this one, but I guess I don't have enough of a taste for schadenfreude. There were some genuinely funny moments and a few great sections about working hard to fulfill your dreams, but if you don't enjoy laughing at someone else's expense, maybe pass on this one.

This book isn't all great, but there are some gems for sure.
