Neighborhood Girls | Jessie Ann Foley

Pickpick

This unforgettable coming-of-age novel from Printz Honor winner & William C. award finalist was my first foray into the Young Adult (YA) genre. It was a terrific read that reminds you that who you are is not always who you‘ve been. People can be remade & remade again. Corrupt & decaying as the world—or one city—may be, there is something worth living for in every life. Really, when all is said & done, what‘s more Americana than that? - Shannon

In this book, historian & author Helen Rappaport illuminates the central figures in Victoria‘s life, including her family, her court, & her household staff. In short chapters, Rappaport shares a lot of info on Victoria, those around her, & England during her initial time as queen. In short, this book is a good reference & a glimpse at the woman who gave her name to one of the most productive ages in history. - Katina, Area Librarian #royalreads

Unhooked | Lisa Maxwell

Unhooked‘s twisted tale of Peter Pan isn‘t the Neverland of your dreams - it‘s the Neverland of your nightmares. It spins the classic fairy tale of Peter Pan & Captain Hook on its head. I‘ve read several retellings of classic fairy tales, but found many of them lacking. Maxwell‘s gift for story telling made me feel like I was on Neverland. There‘s a bit of everything in this enchanting tale: mystery, action, romance, & supernatural. - Katie #LPPL

A.D. 30: A Novel | Ted Dekker

This captivating work of historical fiction provides a view of life through the eyes of people who lived in Jesus‘ day. It is a man‘s world, to be sure. Maviah is a complex character who faces the worst this world has to offer & stands her ground. Danger & suspense, political intrigue & violence, & even encounters with Yeshua (Jesus) himself make for an unforgettable story. Adventure lovers won‘t be disappointed. - Lynette #LPPL #libraryreview

Mehso-so

I have to admit I was curious when I heard that Tom Hanks had written a book, which turned out to be Uncommon Type. I didn‘t get a sense that any of these stories were biographical, but they are quaint, clichéd, & not particularly good. This book is earnest & well-meaning, like America & apple pie. Even his stories of war flashbacks & NYC in the ‘70s are too optimistic & gee-whiz cheerful considering what was going on during those times. - Helen

Rcoco I was wondering whether this book was one of those that just got published because the author is a famous actor. I haven‘t been motivated to pick it up myself. 7y
CathyJ I was really disappointed with this one too. Got the audio but even with Tom Hanks narrating I couldn't finish. 7y
lafourchelibrary Right! Litsy‘s character count doesn‘t let us post the whole review, but our reviewing librarian listened to the audiobook, which seemed to improve the experience, but said the book overall was a disappointment. 7y
