A quick switch up from my usual mystery, thriller, horror novels. I really wanna indulge in my sci-fi side. And I mean...Star Wars. Cmon. 🚀

Oh hey, I found a random Lisa Gardner book in my house and decided to give it a try. My 11pm-7:30am shift is essentially built for reading.
I could say a lot about this book, but honestly, I won‘t. Just, if you‘ve been thinking about reading it, do it. You won‘t regret it, promise.
One days worth of reading lands me on page 126. Enjoying it so far 🙇🏻♀️
Starting this today. A little weary, as books with sexual violence aren‘t usually my cup of tea. But since I had it close by as soon as I finished my last book, I decided to pick it up and give it a chance.
I picked up my first Kenzie book when I was only 19 years old. Gone, Baby, Gone changed my life and Lehane‘s writing turned me into a crime enthusiast. I wish I could say this was the end of an era that was worth it but the characters I love fall flat and the new characters within it are contrived and unbelievable. And worse, unlikeable. Lehane‘s writing is still amazing as always, but for a diehard Kenzie fan, this book didn‘t satiate me at all.
No one knows noir like Lehane. He made me fall in love with grit and crime and neon signs in a black and white world. Nostalgia tastes so good when I read him.
Hey listen. I wanted to like this. I really did. And some twists and turns toward the end almost made the terrible journey worthwhile. Almost.
Holliday‘s attempts at female characterization are so abhorrent they can be used as an example of what NOT to do. The romance in this thriller is so forced, that alone almost caused this to be a DNF. The real sin is the world building. Which...doesn‘t actually exist at all. You can skip this one, trust me.
#currentlyreading I‘m over 50% done and so far? Not good.
