Born a Crime | Trevor Noah
post image
Pickpick

{5/5} If you've watched his stand up you'll find Trevor Noah's voice and personality come through loud and clear in his book. A must read for anyone looking to understand what living under apartheid was like. His stories will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions, from funny anecdotes of him as a sassy child to sobering lessons on the ridiculous rules of apartheid and segregation.

Beloved | Toni Morrison

Pickpick

{5/5} A ghost story like no other. This was my 3rd reread of Toni Morrison's "Beloved". This book reveals something new everytime. It is definitely not an easy read. It is incredibly uncomfortable in the amount of horrific details of the brutality of slave life. Yet, every time I read this book I am amazed at the quality of the symbolism, every thing, no matter how trivial, has another layer hiding beneath.

The Unhoneymooners | Christina Lauren

Mehso-so

{3/5} The Unhoneymooners is perfect for a light fluffy read. It's a classic Rom-Com with lots of fun unrealistic plot twists (such as the classic "There Is Only One Bed" trope). The main characters, Olivia and Ethan, have great banter and chemistry. It's a little corny, but it's meant to be.

{5/5} Ever needed a reminder that we're just weird little aliens floating through space? Nathan W. Pyle's comics are delightful and the highlight of my mornings. The book has so many extras and a cute twist at the end that will leave you imagining pleasant nonsense 👽💙

Pride and Prejudice | Jane Austen

{5/5} I can't believe I've waited so long to "read" Pride and Prejudice! I just finished listening to it through Chirp and it was amazing. It's witty and engaging and had me swooning by the end. Definitely a must read! ❤

sprainedbrain Yay! 🙌🏻 I was almost 40 before I read any Austen, and this was my first and still my favorite. ❤️ Now to find out which adaptation you like the best. 😂 5y

BeansPage Love the hat. Love the book. Love the cookies. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ 6y
abookishbutterfly I think that I may have gotten the same hat from my person as I bought for you! 😂 I didn‘t realize you were in school but now I am glad that I got you the multipack of cookie packets! That seems like it will come in handy as a quick snack between classes! 6y
abookishbutterfly Oh wait! Are you a teacher? Well, either way, they would probably great to grab and go to munch on when you get a chance. (edited) 6y
quixoticjess @Butterflyamore lol yeah, I'm the teacher, but the kids are already as tall as me. The cookies are definitely a great snack at recess time 😊 thanks for being so sweet! 6y

Inkheart Trilogy | Cornelia Funke

Our school library only has Inkdeath, so you can imagine my alarm when one of my students was going to read it without reading Inkheart and Inkspell first 😲 I brought my own copies from home for her and we now have a waiting list going! Can't wait for this new generation of book lovers to fall in love with Cornelia Funke's Inkworld 😊

Reading Adam Ellis' comics in print rather than through a phone screen was a refreshing experience. If you know Adam through his social media you know his comics range from introspective topics like self-esteem to his obsession with coconut oil and crystals. His stuff may not be for everybody, but as a fellow Gudetama fan I find him weirdly relatable.

Attachments: A Novel | Rainbow Rowell

Pickpick

Attachments by Rainbow Rowell is a classic 90's delight. Now, I'm a 1991 baby, so my memory of the time period is vague... but I really feel that Rowell does a great job transporting you to a time of denim jackets and Zima. Beth and Jennifer are hilariously witty in their email banter and Lincoln is an adorable gentle giant of a male lead. This is a must read if you're in the mood for a fluffy office romance with a Y2K backdrop.

Cinfhen Great review!! I was raising babies in the 90s 😂😂but I‘m still curious to read this one!! 6y
quixoticjess @Cinfhen Thanks! Lol it's a fun read! 6y

La casa en Mango Street | Sandra Cisneros
post image
Pickpick

While not exactly a "Christmas" book, reading Sandra Cisneros' Spanish version of The House on Mango Street during the Christmas season felt like coming home. Esperanza's childhood recollections blended well with my own memories and experiences, making it very relatable. Reading it in Spanish only enhanced the experience. Although, for the best results I recommend reading it with a cup of chocolate Abuelita or champurrado ☕

Fangirl (Special) | Rainbow Rowell

Greetings!
I basically devoured this book! It's my first Rainbow Rowell book and I was so impressed by her witty and engaging characters. I was a little unsure after the first chapter, but by the next I was absolutely hooked. I loved tagging along for Cather Avery's first year of college, watching her grow and find herself was both a hilarious and touching journey.
P.S. The collector's edition has fanart of the book inside! 😄

sprainedbrain Love that book! Welcome to Litsy😃 6y
