Girl Mans Up | M-E Girard
post image
Pickpick

⛧⛧⛧⛧⛧This book gave me everything I never realized I hadn't had. It's difficult to find YA that acknowledges the experience of "tomboy" or butch girls (FYI I fall in this category). But Girard has pulled it through for us. GIRL MANS UP covers identity from every angle: presentation, orientation, family acceptance, & friendship. Pick this one up for yourself, or gift it to the girl in your life who has never been able to read about herself before.

Every chapter has a DAMNNNNNNN moment at the end, I'm in LOVE. It's DARK. No false advertising in this title, it's V DARK.
Also, there are basically no men? The men who are there aren't in power? It's very refreshing to read this in SFF.

Sometimes I just peruse the graphic novel section without researching at all... and this gem is a result of that. Had no idea what to expect, and em enjoying it so much. No punches pulled story about growing up as a girl, and finding womanhood (sometimes, the rough prickly way).

#Currentlyreading this gem of a comedic memoir by Jessi Klein. The first section made it instantly hit my list of books to recommend to women who were tomboys & show no signs of changing. If you're not femme, you'll love this. If you ARE femme, read it so you can better understand that one girl friend who carries a backpack instead of a purse even though she graduated ages ago.
