Gone Girl | Gillian Flynn
Pickpick

I was surprised at how long this book is for the mystery genre. Since I have already seen the movie before delving into the novel, I knew whodunnit. Yet, it felt fresh because the gritiness of a crumbling marriage between two intelligent and broken people was captured with such an acute sense of what people can learn to live with that the suffocation of a such a thought made a vortex in my chest.

Marilyncjackson How did you like the ending in the book vs the movie? I think what they did with the ending visually in the movie was better. I can say that I can‘t get this story out of my head! 6y
trickyricky @marilyncjackson I prefer the ending in the book a lot more than the movie. In fact, I prefer the whole novel over the movie because every action is more clear. For instance, in the movie I could never figure out why would an 'amazing' woman like Amy would settle for an average joe like Nick. I think the book does a better job of explaining such little details. The same is true of the ending. 6y

A hilarious account of clash between two different set of immigrant families, coveting unrequited desires and the chasm between the east and west Europe. I wish the characters were a bit less stereotypical but it is a fabulous debut nonetheless.

Malice: A Mystery | Keigo Higashino

Pickpick

Malice is everything I love in a crime thriller. It has a controlled pace that never feels rushed. It has style without the gimmick and it has a story that goes far beyond whodunit.
I would not call Malice as Higashino's best work, that honour belongs to The Devotion of Suspect X but it is up there amongst his best.
