I am taking a break from Litsy. Most people on here are awesome and it was a fun app,. I used to feel like this place was for anyone who read but lately I see a bunch of people telling others how they should read, or bagging on people for grammar. It‘s not everyone but the people who have the most Litfluence and followers seem to be the worst. It is not everyone of these people but it is enough of them. (See comments)

Marilyncjackson I will be checking my account through today then I will be leaving for a while. 5y
Redwritinghood This is the second post like this I‘ve seen today. I don‘t know what‘s going on. Luckily for me, I somehow always seem to miss these things. But, I have no problem unfollowing someone who is rude or disrespectful and then just moving on. I‘ve done it a few times here. Also, if someone writes something on your post that you don‘t like, you can delete their comment. I‘ve done that too. Just don‘t let them spoil your enjoyment of using the platform. 5y
Slajaunie I just unfollow those people. They don‘t get to spoil my fun. 5y
ElizaMarie I‘m sorry that you have been witnessing this. I guess I lucked out so far and haven‘t seen this or maybe I don‘t follow enough people or am active enough. 5y

Bailedbailed

I was really hoping this was going to be good. I bailed after the main character was grinding in a club looking to make out with someone. I like it when stories are re-told and add things like “in space”. But this was lacking. I think some people would find it entertaining so I say give it a try it just wasn‘t for me. The cover is beautiful this photo doesn‘t do it justice.

ulrichyumiodd I loved it! I‘d say that scene is not representative of the book as a whole. Plus, let‘s not forget that lust plays a part in the original legends. In one of the well-known versions, Arthur sleeps with his half-sister shortly after being crowned! I can see why that retelling isn‘t for everyone, though. 5y
Marilyncjackson @ulrichyumiodd I love the “original” legends and have read many different versions. I think this was just too YA for me. It happens sometimes where I realize I am not the target audience lol. I think some people would love this and I bet it becomes a fun romp it‘s just not for me. 5y
ulrichyumiodd I understand that! It is very clearly YA. I wasn‘t expecting it to be what it is, but I truly enjoyed it. The audiobook might have helped, though. (edited) 5y

Pickpick

First I want to tell all the haters of typos and other imperfections don‘t read this book. This book is independently published and though I have seen more typos in traditional published books, there are a couple in the book. The story is sweet and can be a little slow at times, but I liked the new take on this Greek Myth. Hades is a good guy who cares about his realm. (more in comments)

Marilyncjackson Persephone is a goddess kept prisoner by her mother. This book is duel POV and there is not a lot of action. It is about a relationship and coming to age. I enjoyed it. 5y

I am looking for recommendations for gothic or paranormal mysteries. They can be thrillers and they can be whodunnits. What I really want is creepy and dark with murder and mystery. Again paranormal and magic are great. Thank you in advance.

Why oh why did I believe the hype. This book is so boring!! I hate endless descriptions and bland characters and this book had all of that plus some. I did skip to the last twenty pages the end was ok. A little too long and repetitive. I firmly believe that a thriller needs to start being thrilling by the 20% mark or you risk losing your audience. The most action that happened by 20% in this book was a fall in the lobby. So not thrilling.

erank58 Totally agree! 5y
cj82487 I keep coming across this sentiment with this book. I have it on my shelf but have yet to read it. Also I completely agree that if something is described as a thriller I need to be caught up and overwhelmed quickly with the story or I'm putting it down and walking away 5y
Marilyncjackson @cj82487 you should still try it. You might like it. I just found it boring but it‘s not a bad book. The writing is gothic and pretty in some cases, but I want more than pretty words 😊 5y
cj82487 @Marilyncjackson I'm sure I'll pick it up eventually. It never fails I pick out my botm and get all excited then when I get my box I'm already up to my ears in books I'm reading that it sits until it grabs my attention again 🤷‍♀️ 5y

This was a DNF for me. If I get more than 100 pages in and you are still setting the scene I am out. If you are writing about a secret and dead bodies get to the mystery quickly. I did not pick up the book to@read multiple tarot card readings, or about the MC‘s indecision. Don‘t give me overlong descriptions of the weather places that will not mater later (like the MC‘s flat). (More in comments)

Marilyncjackson I was over 60 pages in and the main character was still whining and deciding if she should get into the story or not. If this is a mystery start it on the train where she is heading to the Manson. Give us a no more than three page backstory and only do card reading explanations a max of three times. This book was as boring and long winded as this review. Off to read a better paced mystery. (edited) 5y

Started this last night 30 pages left. I love it! The pacing is great and the characters are both grounded and just over the top enough to make me smile. I am a huge Murder She Wrote fan and this feels like a cousin or older sister of those stories. ❤️

Shel.f I love that she wrote the first two (or maybe three, I can't remember?) in the 1960's, then took off 20 years to raise her kids. Picked back up in the 80's. I have read some of these probably seven or eight times. This first one is a great “comfort read“. 5y
Marilyncjackson @Shel.f I loved it! It was just what I needed to get out of the slump I was in for the last few days. I have the next one on hold at the library. I didn‘t know she took off 20years then came back that is so awesome 5y

Mehso-so

This was so-so for me. Just as it was getting good it ended. The build up takes forever for a little tiny bang. It is like a bottle rocket. It felt like I was reading a TV show but then the writer has written for Doctor Who. There was some hype about this book but I feel it was just meh. Maybe too short? I feel let down.

ShyBookOwl I'm always a little skeptical when a man writes a book about witches. The topic is so wrapped up (historically and today) in the female experience. 6y

Had to read this for book club. It is utter crap! Garbled rantings and fantasy of a 13 year old boy. I had high hopes but like most sci-fi from this time the heavy handed symbolism and lesson teaching was a total turn off. Why can‘t more sci go be like Star Trek you know discovering new thing, meeting new people, and adventure. Hitchhiker‘s Guide style that‘s what I want. I need to go wash the taste of this out of my mouth!

TheWintergarden I think Blade Runner was based off of this book. One of my all time favourite sci fi films so it's interesting to know it' 6y
TheWintergarden Interesting to know the book version must be very different. 6y
Marilyncjackson @TheWintergarden I have never seen Blade Runner and based off this book I never will. I am not a fan of dystopian old sci fi and I could fill up 100 or mor comments on why, but since this book was such a disappointment I will leave the film unwatched then I won‘t upset my film friends like I am upsetting my book friends with my distain for this book. 6y

TheWintergarden @Marilyncjackson Will do!👽💜 6y
rretzler Blade Runner was very loosely base off of this book. It‘s been many many years since I read the book, but the book and the movie are nothing alike. I do recall liking the book when I read it, but I don‘t remember enough to try to defend it. PKDs writing is definitely not for everyone, although many movies are based on his works. 6y
TrishB I loved this when I was a teen, maybe I was masquerading as a 13 year old boy. I‘ve never read since as I know it‘s not my thing now. The film is nothing like it and is awesome. 6y
Marilyncjackson I sometimes masquerade as a 13 year old boy lol. My comments may have been harsh, but I was so disappointed when I finished it. I might try the film since everyone says it is so different. 6y
Shel.f To be fair, the first SF we did had a female protagonist. It was still dystopian as hell, though. I've been avoiding space opera just because I don't enjoy it. I know that a Poul Anderson book is coming up, though - AD leading. It's time travel, maybe it'll be better. 6y
Marilyncjackson @Shel.f I hope the next one is better! But the discussion was good so it made it worth reading 😊 so glad to see you on here. Hope you like the website 6y

I am a member of a library book club where we alternate between Sci-go, Urban fantasy, and fantasy. So far I have hated all of the Sci-fi books they pick because they are all dystopian and all super misogynistic. I think it is because they were all written in the sci-fi peak of the 1960s. Do any of you know newer sci-fi that is not dystopian and is not misogynistic?(more)

Marilyncjackson Something that has a female main character or a main character that doesn‘t think females should be in the kitchen or having babies. Something that‘s in the future but not where the world has ended. I don‘t know just something different then I am the biggest baddest man and I will conquer all aliens, or I‘m the only man left in the world that can save the world (more) (edited) 6y
Marilyncjackson I don‘t know something more like Star Trek where people are out exploring space but not to conquer. Something more like that. Do any of you guys know books like that so I can suggest we read those instead of the crap we have been reading. Thank you ahead of time 😊 (edited) 6y

This book started off strong, but around the 45-50% mark it slowed to a crawl. The scenes started to repeat over and over again. At first they would seem like different scenes but in the end they were the same. Unfortunately, this made me skim the last 50 pages. I think the end would have been really good if it hadn‘t taken so long to get there. I have little intreat in reading the second book.

Marilyncjackson Oh yeah there were some really interesting story threads left unwound but not going anywhere. This was a shame because some of the repetitive scenes could have been left out in favor of the interesting threads 6y

Valentine‘s date with this guy😱. I need a break from YA for a little bit. I read about this book in Save the Cat Writes a Novel and I can‘t stop thinking about it. BTW Save the Cat Writes a Novel is a wonderful book. Let‘s see if this can keep my attention. Also, don‘t you all just love my car‘s seat cover! 😜

Congratulations @Crazeedi 🎉 ! I love Litsy. The first book I remember reading is Sideways Stories from Wayside School. I got to share it with my now teenage stepson. He loved it as much as I did when I was a kid. Thanks for this giveaway it gave me a fun trip down memory lane. #20kgiveaway

Pickpick

This book is pretty good. I wish there was something less than pick but more than so so. The pacing of this book is a little off as I found it to be very interesting then it would start to drag. At times it felt like two different stories shoved together. But it was a pleasant and easy read. If you‘re looking to be entertained this is a good book for that.

ElizaMarie I feel the same way (with the rating system). 6y

Yay my #JustABookSwap arrived! I giggled when I opened it and saw the tagged book. So excited @madamereadsalot1 you picked great! Thank you so much. Is your user name the same on good reads? Just asking so@I could send a friends request. Can‘t wait to start this one, sadly I will prolly have to wait until the weekend. At least I can say my weekend is booked 😝

@TheBookKeepers thank you for hosting.

madamereadsalot1 Yay! I'm glad it found you well! I just added you on Goodreads! I've been holding off adding you so you didn't suspect I was your book giver! Would have been a little obvious, me adding you here and there out if nowhere. 😆 You HAVE to let me know your thoughts. It was on my top 3 favorite books read last year, and has a permanent position on my vast favorites of all time list. 6y
Marilyncjackson @madamereadsalot1 yay! I went and made sure I am following you too. And you are right I would have guessed you were my book giver. I can‘t wait to read this one and I will definitely let you know what I think. 😊 I am counting down until the weekend lol. 6y
TheBookKeepers Yay awesome!!!! I read one of the authors other books called This Monstrous Thing and loved it! I think I need to look into this one! 6y

Nope, I should have just passed. The best part of this book was between pages 50-150 everything else was just Alice in Wonderland. Btw I hate Alice in wonderland so this was not a good book for me. There was way too much going on. There were hints of clockwork, dark fairy tales, getting stuck in fairy world. Too much! Also, the description were way over the top and there was too much of it! Please leave some to the imagination.

Marilyncjackson Just please please stop describing everything using all five sentences and stop repeating and repeating and repeating! So there are some good quotes and good story for about 1/3 of the book the rest is just blah blah blah! 6y
Marilyncjackson Oh and we need more this book sucked stickers! 6y
julesG So glad I'm not the only one. 6y

julesG Also, I thought the font size was deliberately big to get a higher page count. This could have worked well as a short story or novella. 6y
Kayla.Adriena Pretty cover but I'm not putting it on my TBR ! 6y
Marilyncjackson @julesG you were right about this book when I talked about it before. It went down hill hard and fast. It really felt like the author was trying to get a page or word count and the story would have been better if it was shorter. Oh well on to the next book hopefully it will be better. 6y
Marilyncjackson @Kayla.Adriena yeah the cover is very pretty, but I think you should find something else. So many better books to spend your time with. 6y

Well I was enjoying this book. Key word here is “was”. This book started off really slow and then got good and just when I was think yay it‘s going to get better it got super slow and boring. Note to all authors out there please do not take a paragraph to describe things and do not spend pages and pages using flowery descriptive words it really takes away from reading. I am sure there are books omg there where RBI‘s is good but not this one.

Marilyncjackson And because I ran out of room: don‘t slow the book down to a crawl after the midpoint because when you do this I get bored. I am just skimming at this point so I can get it finished but I stopped caring when you added the boring description. The premise for the action is cool but you needed to cut out about half the words. See how boring this gets when I keep talking and adding words just to get a word count? 6y
ulrichyumiodd I would say it‘s a personnal choice - I love descriptions. Reading them, writing them. It might be more common in French, though! We‘re all about pretty language, haha. 6y
