A Hoosier to die for? When vintage cookware and cookbook collector Jaymie Leighton spies an original 1920s Hoosier brand kitchen cabinet at an estate auction, its love at first sight. Despite the protests of her sister that the 19th-century yellow-brick house they share in Michigan is already too cluttered with Jaymies junk, she successfully outbids the other buyers and triumphantly takes home her Hoosier. But that night on the summer porch where theyve left the Hoosier to be cleaned up, a man is murdered, struck on the head with the steel meat grinder that is part of the cabinet. Who is this strangerand what was he doing on their porch? Does his death have anything to do with the Hoosier? As the police struggle to determine the mans identity, Jaymie cant help doing a little digging on her own, accompanied by her three-legged Yorkie Poo, Hopalong. But in her bid to uncover the truth about the hidden secrets of the Hoosier, Jaymie may be the one who ends up going, goinggone.

I listened to this cozy mystery on audio. Jaymie, the main character, collects vintage kitchen kitsch, and when she purchases a Hoosier at an auction, she gets more than she bargains for, including various home breakins and a dead body, all connected to the Hoosier and other auction purchases. I wasn‘t quite a fan of Jaymie, but I‘m hoping she develops more as the series progresses. The audio narration was okay too.

mabell I haven‘t read this series, but I‘m a couple of books into her other series - Merry Muffin. They definitely have a different vibe. 4y
Librarybelle @mabell I‘ve yet to read the muffin series, but I think I own at least the first one in that. 4y

Pickpick

At first I was completely lost in the book. New author new series but as I delved into it I really enjoyed it. The idea of kitchen collectibles was interesting because I see a lot of this stuff when I go with Hubby to flea markets or antiquing. Definitely plan to read the next book in the series soon.

2017 #84 mystery audio at times frustrating but a nice fluff piece with plenty of super obvious red herrings. Interesting cross border interactions and history

Idk. Part of me is trying so hard!!! to love this book, bcz antique kitchen shit! Old cookbooks & vintage recipes! Protag who prefers tea over coffee! So many cool things offered here. But I'm nearly halfway done, the big crime has been committed, yet I still don't know shit about the MC. She likes kitchen antiques. Her ex dumped her 6 months ago for a younger babe. But? Tf does she do for a living? Dick around? Cos that's all it looks like. 🤔

drokka You also got Tempest in a Teapot yes? It's the same author different name. She's a bit listless too. I have this series, mainly because of the titles but I've yet to read any of them. Maybe I'll pick this up tomorrow, I need something light in my life at the moment 7y
queerbookreader @drokka This one is definitely one of the less stressful cozies I've read. I did pick up the teapot one too, I didn't know it was the same author!! Overall I'd say this one wasn't terrible but it wasn't great. I'm considering reading the next in the series but not like "I HAVE to read this ASAP", more so to see if the other characters get more involved in the story in the more established books in the series 7y
queerbookreader @drokka Whatever, I'll be looking forward to hearing how you like it! 7y

Read as part of #Book1CoziesClub

This was an enjoyable read but a bit slower in pace for me. I did figure out a few things pretty early on & some of the attempts to deflect suspicion to another character was just ridiculous to me. I did appreciate that there was no sign of a love triangle for the majority of the book, but there is a definite possibility for one in the series, I think.

This one comes with 2 versions of a recipe.
