I would show this to your child if they love to bang on furniture or play imaginary instruments. They will deepen their love for music!

“No matter what kinds of problems we might be going through, or what kinds of problems the world might be going through, music is the place where we can all get along. We can all jam”
This story takes place in New Orleans and we meet our friend Trombone Shorty. Trombone shorty is a nickname given to him by his brother because of his love for jazz music. This book does a wonderful job at showing children different culture as well as showing children in‘s and outs of music and what makes it beautiful.
Trombone Shorty was once a guest at my high school and I remember loving his performance and his talk about music. This is a fun picture book explaining his passion for music, his inspiration from his hometown in NOLA, and how he made his dream come true with hard work and dedication. I listened to the audiobook while I read, which added to the experience, as his music plays throughout 🎺🎶
#MusicalCover #NewYearNewBook @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks One of my all time favorite musical picture books!
I think this book would be good for 3-5th grade students, it is a bit lengthy so it may require more attention, it would be a good history lesson on culture family and following your dreams

This the story of Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews who got the nickname because he walked around New Orleans playing a trombone that was twice his size. Today there is a music foundation and academy in his honor.

I listened to this phenomenal audio while viewing the picture book for a really great experience.
I was lucky enough to listen to the audiobook version of this while flipping through the print version so I could experience both the illustrations and the music which are both exceptional. This is the story of a young boy from New Orleans who falls in love with the brass bands there at a young age, and because of his charm and dedication that community embraces him back and helps set him on the path to becoming a musician in his own right.
5 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
I loved this story. I loved this true life story of a Black boy from New Orleans who looks at his heritage as he looks to the future. More real stories like this are needed for our kids. Add to the story the fantastic illustrations and this book is a solid 5 stars.
This biography book is good because it contains a fast moving narrative to keep readers intrigued, but yet still withholds many of the important and vast details of the character's life. I think it is accurate and authentic, using many careful resources to conduct the reading, and it also has a lot background information to understand what is going on throughout the story!
I think this book would be great for kids that are interested in music or cultures of where they might come from. It is about the New Orleans culture and how one little boy was able to create a successful world for himself in variety of music at such a young age. I think kids can read this and feel inspired to reach their dreams or at least begin to wonder what they can do in the world out there!
I would be able to incorporate this book in my classroom to help my students understand the past and learn about diversity in the fact that the author experienced a lot of the Civil Rights Movement aftermath and racial issues yet how he continued to play and express his love for music.
Trombone Shorty written by Troy Andrews. This book followed the life of the actual author of the book, who is an American musician. The book offers interest and meaning for today's child through music and the arts. Reading this book will also help children understand the past and how music has evolved since then.
I enjoyed reading this story about Troy Andrews who started off not having very much to his name. As time goes on, he made his dream take off by following his dreams and working hard.
I loved this book. The illustrations were so cool and I love the authenticity of it
my favorite part was the page where there were all the people in the parade looking away than the one child is facing forward sticking his tongue out
We went to see Bo Diddley, who my mom said was one of the most important musicians of all time. As I watched him onstage, I raised my trombone to my lips and started to play along. He stopped his band in the middle of the song and asked the crowd, “Who's that playing out there?“
I liked how the illustrations in this book are very lively. I liked how this book celebrates the rich cultural history of New Orleans and the power of music.
This book is about a boy, Troy, who got the nickname “trombone shorty“ because he had a trombone twice as tall as he was. He was a prodigy, leading his own band by age six. This book also tells the story of how his dream started. He did not always have the money to buy an instrument, but he did have a dream to play music. Today, he headlines the New Orleans Jazz Fest.
“WHERE Y'AT? WHERE Y'AT? I still keep my trombone in my hands, and I will never let go.
I loved the details in the illustrations of this book. They are so unique with the mixture of drawing and real pictures. This technique makes the pictures look so different than any other book. I enjoyed this story about “Trombone Shorty.“
I really enjoyed this story! This book tells the story of Troy Andrews and his dreams of being in a band. It shows children that you can do anything you want to, as long as you work for it.
“Trombone Shorty!” He called out. Because the instrument was two times my size.”
I really enjoy Troy‘s attitude towards his dreams throughout the book! Especially when he first encounters the “beaten up” trombone!
Trombone Shorty by Troy Andrews, 2015. Caldecott Award Winning Book. This children‘s nonfiction book follows the story of Troy Andrews and how his dreams of having his own band become a reality. This book give children an insight to New Orleans culture! The illustrations help depict details like the smell of gumbo all the way to the sounds of Troy‘s trombone.
I think this is a really great book to inspire kids to follow their dreams and become passionate about something.
This book tells the story of Trombone Shorty, who grew up in New Orleans and became a famous musician. He talks about his background and what New Orleans is like, and how living there has shaped him.
“The crowd passed me overhead until I was standing next to Bo Diddley himself! I walked right up to the microphone and held my trombone high up in the air, ready to blow.”
This is a inspiring story that I would read to my class. They would be able to share their own passions and excitements.
Trombone shorty by Bryan Collier is a Caldecott winning book that was published in 2015. This is a story about a young boy nicknamed, Trombone Shorty, who lives in New Orleans. The author talks about how he would celebrate MardiGra by seeing the parade and the brass instruments. He would then eat Gumbo and related the Gumbo back to his brass instruments. his brother named his trombone shorty because his musical instrument was much bigger than him.
#MusicalNewYear Day 8: New Orleans is the city that raised Troy Shorty, a young man surrounded by music – from the sounds in the streets to his brother, James who played the trumpet and constantly encouraged Troy to follow him. Troy immersed himself in parades, #Masquerade, Mardi Gras! He did not allow the lack of resources – the absence of instruments – to stop him and his friends from creating music. Trombone Shorty by Troy Andrews is a Caldecott medal and Coretta Scott King award winning B. This book would be a good one to use as a RT book in class. The book talks about the early years of Troy “trombone shorty” Andrews. He was a young child in New Orleans who was a music prodigy playing a trombone that was longer than he was tall, he lead his own band by the age of 6. After going to the library for myself, had to go back and get a few books for the kids...and El Deafo and Hour of the Bees for myself. We are going to try some longer "chapter" books over the next few weeks as we will be stuck inside with a 3 year old and a newborn. #toddlertbr #kidlit #librarylove
