Harrius Potter et Philosophi Lapis
Harrius Potter et Philosophi Lapis: (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone) | J. K. Rowling
6 posts | 2 read | 3 to read
Latin translation of the first Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in which Harry Potter, a normal eleven-year-old boy, discovers that he is a wizard. Long ago, Harry's parents were killed in a battle with the evil Lord Voldemort. When we first meet Harry, he is living miserably with his repulsive and non-magical (or Muggle) Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon Dursley, and their even more revolting son, Dudley. Following a bizarre but hilarious chain of events, Harry finds himself at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, with an outrageous cast of characters, including super-smart Hermione Granger, vile Draco Malfoy, sinister Professor Snape, and the wise Headmaster Albus Dumbledore. Adventures galore ensue.

There it is - I‘ve only read a few pages so far, my Latin is far more rusty than I thought ...

Buechersuechtling Heeeey, thanks for tagging me. 😃 But honestly, I don‘t know if I shall laugh out loud or throw my hands up in horror. Seriously, _who_ is capable of translating this English into proper Latin⁉️😉 I‘m really surprised that there obviously is an audience for this. (I mean, for me it‘s easy, I don‘t speak Latin, but I‘m sure that you‘ll understand where I‘m aiming at. No offence meant.) But … Is it used in Latin classes at school❓🤔 5y
Kaddele I had the same reaction 🤪 - hope it‘s being used in classes, it‘s much more interesting than most of what we had to read. 🥱😴There are quite a few Latin translations of modern books - definitely The Hobbit, Winnie the Pooh and of course some volumes of Asterix. 5y

Some things I'm #thankfulfor The jewelery were gifts from my boyfriend and the necklace from my mom. I wear them all almost every day and it makes me feel like I'm armoured in love. The book represents my love for reading that my mom gave me. And my time at uni. I have been given the freedom to study whatever I want. It represents my love for dead languages and literature. And I'm thankful for cacti because my cat eats all other plants 😂

JonathanDunne This is great 😃 8y
cariashley There's a plant that cats WON'T eat? This is amazing news! 8y
rubyslippersreads @cariashley I bet my cat Nicky would give it a try. 😸 8y

Hermoine is the unlimate #unforgetablewoman for me. My mom read the books to me during my early teens. Hermoine made me see that it was ok and even cool to be bookish and nerdy. Thanks to this I never felt the pressure to fit in in high school because I felt cool enough being me. The book on the bottom is a Latin translation that I use to improve my Latin. Hermoine still helps me bring out my inner nerd💗

Kalalalatja Wow impressive! I can't even imagine reading it in Latin 😂 8y
Suzze I took 3 years of Latin and we had to translate Caesar's Gallic Wars. How nice it would have been to read a modern book! As we said back then....Latin is a dead language, as dead as dead can be, it used to kill the Roman's and now it's killing me. 😜😜 8y
I-read-and-eat @Suzze Most of the fun is in the text you're reading. We are currently reading Cicero's On Duties, boy was that man full of himself. Reading this I can see why it died out. 😉 8y
