Frozen Dead | Bernard Minier

Saint-Martin-de-Comminges is a small town nestled in the French Pyrenees. The kind of place where winters are harsh and unforgiving and where nothing ever happens. Until the winter morning when a group of workers discover the headless, flayed body of a horse, hanging suspended from the edge of a frozen cliff. On the same day the gruesome discovery takes place, Diane Berg, a young psychiatrist starts her first job at a high-security asylum for the criminally insane, just a few miles away. She is baffled by the slightly unorthodox methods the asylum's director uses, and then greatly alarmed when she realizes that drugs are disappearing from within the fortified institution while someone seems to be slipping out at night. Commandant Martin Servaz, a charismatic city cop from nearby Toulouse fond of quoting Latin, can't believe he has been called out over the death of an animal. But there's something disturbing about this crime that he can't ignore. Then DNA from one of the most notorious inmates of the asylum, a highly intelligent former prosecutor, accused of killing and raping several women, is found on the horse carcass . . . and a few days later the first human murder takes place. A dark story of madness and revenge seems to be unfolding.Servaz and his colleague, the mysterious Irene Ziegler, must use all their skill to solve the terrifying mystery and best one of the most fiendish and clever opponents they could ever imagine.

Pickpick

Finally finished this book. Not bad, felt like it could have been a bit shorter. It had some good twists. I‘m going to start the series on Netflix this week. 3.5 🌟#24in58

Up and at it this morning! #24in48 Not far along as I wish I would be but some things came up yesterday. I am sure I won‘t hit the 24hr but I‘m going to try to get another couple books checked off my list. 😋

I‘m so weak! My goal was to read 10 books before buying a new one... I got to 2. #mounttbrchallenge 😐 I had a 20% off and several gift cards just burning a whole in my pocket. I‘m on a weight loss challenge so I can‘t have will power for everything! 😂 (Plus I really want to read this book before watching it on Netflix)

GlassAsDiamonds 😂😂😂😂 Well, they do say that willpower is finite!! 6y
VinceReads 😂 At least you got to 2 6y
MicheleinPhilly I just bought 4. BUT in my defense I used a gift card and they were all series continuations. 6y
eanderson @GlassAsDiamonds I like it! 😂 @VinceReads I agree! I feel like I accomplished something. @MicheleinPhilly I feel like using gift cards doesn‘t count! It‘s not cash we had in our pockets. 😂 6y
DivaDiane 😱No seriously. Don‘t worry! Maybe 10 Books was too many? I‘d say 2 is the minimum, then at least you are still reducing, but you could aim for 3 books this time and see how you get on! 6y

Mehso-so

I am very conflicted regarding how to rate this book. I think Minier put a tremendous amount of research into the writing of this book and it has some excellent moments. His sense of humor is delightful and it leavens the seriousness at just the right time. However, I just came away feeling the ending was very contrived. I think it is worth the read but I was disappointed at the end.

This was just ok. Took me longer than usual to finish since it was very slow and boring at times. I found the personal side stories more interesting than the main story. I'm going to try another one in this series just to see if it will be more interesting than this one was. 🌟🌟🌟
