A stunning debut novel follows a young woman, searching for her missing sister, as she is drawn into a world of escorts and prostitution Fiona works for a construction company in a job she hates. By night she searches for her missing sister, Rona, who disappeared many years before. A chance meeting draws Fiona into the murky world of the sex industry. When a local sex workers' refuge is threatened with closure because of a property development Fiona herself is working on, she forms an unlikely allianceone that challenges every preconception she had about the industry, to face the secrets of the past, to reexamine her relationship with her lost sister, and possibly to change her life forever. Meticulously researched, this is a landmark novel from one of the UK's most exciting new women authors.

This book was surprisingly good. The story is definitely engaging. Fiona's sister disappeared over 6 years ago, leaving one thing behind. In order to find her, Fiona finds herself getting involved in an entire world of sex workers. It actually doesn't sound great in a blurb which is probably why it sat on my shelf for so long. You'll have to trust me.

This cover caught my eye from the new fiction shelf. Set in Scotland, this is a story surrounding a young lady named Fiona, who has been searching for her missing younger sister named Rona. Her sisters trail quickly went cold and now, after 6 years Fiona discovers that she seems to have traded her old life to pursue a career as a sex worker on the club scene. Fiona's perceptions of "the kind of people" that work in this trade are challenged ?

HeathHof As she gets to know them while following any and all leads to find out what happened to Rona and where she is now. There are some graphic parts in here and although this isn't my normal cup of tea, Fiona's search for her sister was pretty compelling. ⭐⭐⭐ 4y

Reviewing this Netgalley ARC. Last book, I think, for #SummerEndReadathon. It is the story of Fiona who‘s searching for her younger sister, Rona, for 7 years. Fiona learns that Rona was a sex worker leading Fiona to see sex workers as human beings with their own voices and choices. She meets Anya/Sonja & others while still searching for Rona & raising her daughter as a single mother. Anya‘s blog entries are powerful. Not my usual but excellent

Immersive, compelling and with plenty to say. A great read with a narrative that never detracts from what it has to say but never gets subsumed by it either. Read it!
