A millennium into the future, two advancements have altered the course of human history: the colonization of the Galaxy and the creation of the positronic brain. On the beautiful Outer World planet of Solaria, a handful of human colonists lead a hermit-like existence, their every need attended to by their faithful robot servants. To this strange and provocative planet comes Detective Elijah Baley, sent from the streets of New York with his positronic partner, the robot R. Daneel Olivaw, to solve an incredible murder that has rocked Solaria to its foundations. The victim had been so reclusive that he appeared to his associates only through holographic projection. Yet someone had gotten close enough to bludgeon him to death while robots looked on. Now Baley and Olivaw are faced with two clear impossibilities: Either the Solarian was killed by one of his robots--unthinkable under the laws of Robotics--or he was killed by the woman who loved him so much that she never came into his presence!

Book 2 of the excellent R. Daneel Olivaw Series by Isaac Asimov. Great example of science fiction meeting detective series, and a good twist on book 1 in the series. Written 66 years ago but still holds up really well.

Eggs Great choice! 2y
Andrew65 @Eggs Can‘t beat Asimov. Enjoyed re-reading them over the last few years. 2y

A classic hard sci-fi book. Police procedural and robots and other worlds. There is a reason Asimov was (and still is) the king of this type of fiction.
I do wish Bailey would have says Jehosaphat about 99% times less then he did. That word was funny the first 2 times the just ridiculous.
This was my December #doublebookspin playing with @TheAromaofBooks

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! And I agree - sometimes an author gets a word in his head & can't seem to let it go! 3y

Finished Book 2 of my re-Read of Asimov‘s Robot Series. A science fiction detective story on an alien world where robots do everything and massively outnumber the 20,000 humans. Can those robots also kill? This is an excellent read, as was book 1, and leaves the book on quite a philosophical point. Now I need to find a way to get hold of book 3 which was written 17 years later!

Leniverse I have only read one of the robot books, years ago, and I don‘t know which one. It was kind of a locked room mystery. A man has been murdered, and no one else were in the house except for robots and the victim‘s wife. But due to seriously faulty immune systems the spouses were actually living in different parts of the house, hermetically sealed off, and could have no physical contact. Crazy stuff. Any idea what title that would be? 5y
Andrew65 @Leniverse I think that‘s this one! 👍 5y
Leniverse Nice, yes I read the blurb now and that does sound like it. So that‘s book two, good to know! 😄 5y
rretzler I‘m a big fan of Asimov and this series! 5y
Andrew65 @rretzler I‘d agree but been many years since I read his books so rereading them. A man ahead of his time. 5y

Andrew65 @EadieB Fantastic Fiction doesn‘t show it in the Foundation series but one of a few books compromising collections of short stories. 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 it is under The Robot series but listed the way they usually list novellas. I think I confused you because I added that I also have some Foundation books from the Foundation series. 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB I think I Robot are the published stories he first sold to magazines before he was a published author. 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 oh ok because there are 6 novellas listed. 5y

EadieB @Andrew65 Right! Did you ever read Foundation series? 5y

A friend of mine recommended me this book by Asimov after talking about Bill Gates proposal to tax robots use as we tax labor. And then I read this article... and I think it is all linked and it is a tragedy and a comedy. And I love people, human beings recommending books. And this is why I am here every now and then.
