#magicalmarch #silence

Another great graphic novel about the civil rights movement illustrated by the great Nate Powell who also illustrated the March graphic novels. I had the pleasure of hearing Powell speak at my library last year and he was quite engaging.

If you're looking for more graphic novels about the civil rights movement after #MarchinMarch, give this one a try. The title is taken from one of my favorite MLK quotes.

Donna_sBookMinute I noticed Nate Powell's art immediately. Stacked. 8y

Amazing, outstanding, incredible, breathtaking graphic novel set in 1960s Texas about civil rights. The whole book plays on MLK's quote "In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends". Fitting for this month. Get it on your TBRs, now. That's an order. Mush. #overthis #ibettersee400bookstackednotifications #imserious

queerbookreader @DGRachel I hope you get to read it soon! I wish I could put books on hold but my county library system charges 50c/hold and I would be flat out broke in a week if I went that route 8y
DGRachel @lemonlime799 Ouch! I love being able to search my library's catalog online and request books from my phone. 8y

I'm new to comics and I'm really enjoying their ability to tackle complex topics. In particular, the visual images can convey viscerally complex feelings and ideas where words may fail. This book is based on the true story of the (white) author's time growing up in Texas during the civil rights era, and how his father became friends with a black activist. Based on current events, the topic of alliances and reaching out is more important than ever.

I was intrigued by this short graphic novel, illustrated by Nate Powell, who is the illustrator of the March trilogy. It is an interesting portrayal of the TSU Five and race relations in Texas in the late 1960s. This is one of my picks for the Panels #ReadHarder Challenge 2015 category of Independent Publisher (First Second). With the great recommendations from Litsy, I plan to read more in this category. #comics
