"We're so alike, you and I. It's no wonder we kept finding each other." September 11, 1973: Eleven-year-old Alejandro Penda watches from his apartment window as Santiago, Chile falls to a military coup, destroying his family and his childhood. Arriving alone in America, hes taken in by the Larks: a prominent family in the town of Guelisten. Though burdened by unresolved grief for his disappeared parents, he becomes fiercely loyal to the Larks, eventually marrying one of their daughters, Valerie. September 11, 2001: Javier Landes watches from his apartment window as New York City falls to terrorism. As one of Manhattans top-paid male escorts, this professional lover has never lacked for company and is loyal only to himself. But in the wake of 9/11, Jav is named guardian for an orphaned nephew in Guelisten and must open his carefully-guarded heart to pain he's long suppressed. Alex, Valerie and Jav meet first in their twenties, with a sudden attraction each finds strange and compelling. When they meet again in their forties, they discover not only is their bond still strong, but their life experiences are strangely similar. All have been shaped by separate 9/11's, and their unfinished business from the past will change everything they know about love, loyalty and friendship. "Life has rules. You cannot come in the middle of the night and take what we agreed isn't yours." Across three decades and two continents, Suanne Laqueur's fifth novel explores the unpredictability of sexual attraction, how family ties are forged, torn and mended, and how love's downfall can turn to exaltation.

Loved this one! It packed a lot of stuff but it never felt scattered and I never lost interest. The plot twist at about 80% was so shocking it gave me a small headache 😅

I plan to read the next one in the series soon!

This is a hard book to summarize. It‘s about love. Families. Loss. And second chances.

A slow read, this felt more like a soap opera than I usually appreciate, too tense & dramatic. And more sex than I was expecting, so not really my thing.

But the characters were diverse, intricate, & detailed. And the emotions were poignant and forefront throughout the story. This might not be my kind of book. But I can appreciate it for what it is. 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

My youngest sister adopted a new kitten with her boyfriend around Halloween. I‘m catsitting for the weekend.

His name is Church. And yes, Steven King fans, he‘s named for exactly what you‘re thinking. #catsoflitsy #BabyChurch

sarahbarnes 😳 He looks very sweet though! 3y
mom2bugnbee Having never read King, what is the reference here? Pet Semetary? 3y
BookmarkTavern @sarahbarnes He is! He‘s only three months though, so he doesn‘t quite get that he can‘t play with me like another cat. @mom2bugnbee Yeah! Apparently there‘s a cat named Church in that book. I have also never read Steven King, so she had to explain the reference to me. 😆 3y
AlaMich Oh man, I still remember Church even though I probably read the book 35 years ago! 😱 3y

Found this here: #blameitonlitsy
Definitely not my typical read, but I must say I was very entertained. This is a long and emotional soap opera but the characters are vivid and it's also pretty sexy throughout. Escapism but does feature PTSD, sexual identity, family by blood and also families made from love.

Returning to this #ebook after a small break from it. I renewed my loan from the digital library after running out of time. Hopefully I'll finish it this time!
Hope everyone is well out there! ♥️📚

I just reread these books over Christmas, but I can‘t get the characters or the writing out of my head. So here we go again, into the place where I get lost in the people and places and the love. Oh, the love. It‘s painful and wonderful, heartbreaking and beautiful, and these books are such treasures.

Seriously, why aren‘t more people reading these?

This will be my first book for #24b4Monday.

This book had a ton of 5 star reviews on Goodreads, but all of the descriptions as to what the book was about were really vague. Having just finished the book, I now understand the struggle. In one sentence, this book is about finding love in all of its many forms. Definitely have to warn you though this is not a romance novel in any traditional sense of the word, there is a lot of sex in this book. A LOT of sex. (Photo from Google)

I just did an inventory of the books I own last weekend, and I certainly have no shortage of books waiting to be read at home. But this one was calling to me on Amazon—what‘s one more, right?!

readordierachel I tell myself the same thing 😂 This one sounds good though! 5y

Is “epic romance” a thing? If not, this novel has constructed its own place in literary fiction. Though it took me far too long to get through, SO much happens, and it kept my attention every time I picked it up. I feel like I can‘t say a thing without spoiling but WOW— every time I thought I knew where the story was going it took another turn. Though it could easily be deemed exhausting, I‘d say it‘s well worth sticking out.

It feels like it‘s been forever since I spent any quality time here. I miss my Littens! We‘ve been prepping for moving (the big day is 12/15), and I‘m having surgery on Monday, so other than a couple of hours tomorrow I‘m banned from from packing since I won‘t be able to lift anything for six weeks. I loaded up my kindle app yesterday, and I‘m starting this now; I haven‘t heard anything about it but it looks excellent.

Bookzombie I hope your surgery goes smoothly and the move later on too. 🙂 6y

This is definitely my favorite read of 2016. I loved everything about it. I had many smiles and tears along the way. My heart squeezed and soared.
I'm still so deep in the feels that I can't get it out of my head. This author truly has a gift. There are a lot of good books out there, but finding something that touches me on this level is a rare unicorn. Bravo! #AnExaltationOfLarks #SuanneLaqueur https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1820902468

My first from this author and I feel overwhelming joy to find a treasure of words in this book. Just ordinary words, but she has this way of stringing them forming sentences making them into an awesome 👏 story. This book, the characters consumed me, all my thoughts. It was such a wonderful ride, surprised me some, took me to places I had never thought to go when starting this book. Made me think about coincidences and destiny.
