I loved this podcast episode with Angie Thomas, particularly for her thoughts on issue vs. nonissue books as well as who she writes for. I listened to it before finishing the book (so good!) and thought it really enriched my reading experience!
I absolutely FLEW through this series. Obviously I was into the alternate history/space race/awesome smart ladies, but I think one of my favorite parts was the marriage at the center of it. A true partnership, Friday Night Lights style, that completely hooked me. 💛
Just finished this today (enjoyed parts but it didn‘t live up to The Hating Game) and realized the cover includes one of my pet peeves: when the character on the cover looks nothing like how they‘re described. She‘s supposed to be a bartender goth girl which is NOTHING like that cover. 😒 #romantsy
I read this after watching the Netflix show which I think set my expectations for being being super creeped out at an all time high that weren‘t met by the book. Glad I read it but definitely preferred the show. In any case, it‘s the book that got me to my 1,000th book read on Goodreads, which I‘m pretty proud of!
Just finished my first ever Robin Hobb and I‘m completely sucked in! NOSY!!! 😭😭 #fantasy #robinhobb
Back on Litsy after a brief hiatus. Just finished this adventure memoir and now I'm hankering for more. Who's got lady-adventurer recs??
Don't mind me, just over here reading romance like it's my job! I read both of these in a day apiece because I can't resist a grumpy hero with a heart of gold. 😍#romantsy
I usually read romance on my kindle so I'm not often treated to old school covers like the one on the left from 1989. 😂 #romantsy
Well, this is nothing like the movie but I'm enjoying it so far! Definitely imitates the style of oral histories so it doesn't have as strong a narrative drive as the movie but that hasn't bothered me. Honestly, if it had a different name I would have never assumed it was the source material. #audiobook
How busy/stressed I am at work is directly correlated to the proportion of romance novels to any other genre. You'll notice I'm at 100% today. 😬 No shame, I do what I gotta do to stay sane! Finished The Royal Treatment last night. Which one should I read next??#romantsy
I was poking around on Overdrive when this cover caught my attention. 🐧 Not the best I've ever read but a fun ride! #romantsy
So good! I want to buy a copy for all my friends with kids. 🇺🇸👍🏽
Normally I love an audiobook which is why I'm SHOCKED to not love this. Honestly, I think it's Dan Stevens' accent for Poirot. I just can't. 😬 I think I'll try again reading instead of listening. 🤷♀️
Starting my very first Agatha Christie! 🚂 I figured an upcoming movie adaptation was as good a place to start as any. 🤓
Non book related post to share a weekend adventure.😁 My best friend and I drove outside the city to hike to a waterfall which was obviously beautiful! Cummins Falls in Cookeville, TN if you're ever in the area! #waterfall #hiking
If you enjoyed Jessi Klein's essay collection, do yourself a favor and listen to her conversation with Casey Wilson on The Longest Shortest Time #podcast. Funny and thoughtful! (Also why is the cropping feature the worst??)
Flying through this audiobook! 🎧 I read every Anne Helen Peterson essay I find online for her thoughtful commentary and have really appreciated reading her in a longer form. 👏
Really enjoying this so far. Will Patton is a great narrator! 🎧👍
All of these #bookishwouldyourather posts give me the perfect opportunity to remind everyone that THIS is the best Rochester (BBC 2006 miniseries). 😍 Toby Stephens, son of Dame Maggie Smith, embodies the best of the character. In the Michael Fassbender version he's just a dick. Sorry not sorry. 😬 Fav scene linked below (which includes spoilers, just FYI). https://youtu.be/CIfIJKtVb08
Finished the final book in the Song of the Lioness series - so delightful! Truly can't believe I missed out on this series as a kid since it would have been right up my alley. I'm a sucker for stories about women disguising themselves as men and charting their own destiny. 🤺🗡🛡🐴🐈👑✨#fantasy #womenwarriors #alanna
Finished this on audio last night. I read Redefining Realness a few years ago and loved it so I knew I would want to read her second memoir. Given that I just turned 30 this year myself, its interesting to compare how our 20s shaped us. Our stories are not very similar on the surface, but finding your voice and knowing who you are things anyone can relate to, no matter the circumstances. Particularly recommend the audio by the author. 🙌🌈💜
Look at all of those great #holdsonlitsy thanks to the Nashville Public Library! I've clearly always got some #romantsy picks in the works. 😍Most excited for the new Tessa Dare, even if it's a seriously lame cover 🙄
My second foray into #magicalrealism was much more successful than my first (One Hundred Years of Solitude). I found this to be far more accessible, even if I didn't have the background on Chilean history to fully understand the points of reference. Multigenerational family epics will always pull me in, as well as solid writing. Recommend 👍 #booksintranslation
Really grateful this memoir exists and that Diane shared the story of her family, the good and bad parts. I think this falls under the same category as I Am Malala for me: an important story that I wholeheartedly recommend, with the caveat that because both used a co-author imitating their voices, it's not the best written book you'll ever read. Absolutely still recommend, just setting expectations appropriately. 💜

Stumbled across this link this morning. I've only read 3 on the list from Tennessee: A Death in the Family, The Firm, and The Serpent King. Guess I just need to add even more to my TBR. 😊 #unitedstatesofbooks http://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/the-united-states-of-books/
Holiday weekends are the best because you can read 3 books in one day! 🤷♀️📚😉 #poetry #graphicnovel #urbanfantasy
Finished this audiobook today - my first of Ann Patchett's fiction. I've read This Is a Story of a Happy Marriage but this is completely different, except for the beautiful writing. 😊 I love a unique, interesting story and morally ambiguous characters so this was perfect for me. However, it did not make me want to visit the Amazon rainforest anytime soon. 😬🐍
Finished this at the pool over the weekend! Somehow I had never heard of this book, which is the first in a trilogy, or the author, who was only the third woman ever to win the Nobel. Set in 14th century Norway, it follows the life of Kristin as she grows from a young child into young adulthood. It was notable for its depictions of female sexuality and moral ambiguity when it was published in 1920. #booksintranslation
I'll never pass up a good bookish quiz! I definitely don't think all of my reading falls under escapism, but I do love me a good romance novel so she may be on to something. 😉 If any of you Modern Mrs. Darcy/What Should I Read Next fans want to find out your type, get to it! www.readingpeoplebook.com/quiz
Finished this book today and goodness, does it pack a punch. I had seen the movie years ago and remembered some of the major plot points, but knowing certain spoilers didn't ruin it for me. I'll definitely check out more of Kazuo Ishiguro's work in the future!
I may be second in a line of 74 for Hunger but that doesn't matter if it's still on order instead of available for checkout. 😡 Now I'm remembering why I never put holds on print copies of new releases. 🤦🏼♀️ Get it together, Nashville Public Library! #bookwormproblems
Finally got to visit Her Bookshop in East Nashville today. 🙌 And I had to pick up On Tyranny since it has gotten so much love on Litsy. 😊 #nashville
Read the first the Victorian Rebels series in one sitting today. 😍❤️ A little darker than I expected but so good! I've never read Kerrigan Byrne before, and this definitely won't be my last! #romantsy
Watched the Black Panther trailer yesterday so it seemed like time to catch up on the comics, thanks to my library!
I so wish I read this series as a kid, but honestly grown up me needs these reminders every now and then too. Not to mention I'm still riding the high of Wonder Woman so I'm all about female warriors! 👊
Came across this article describing Octavia Butler's amazing notebook of affirmations. She wrote the life she wanted into existence! "So be it! See to it!" ✍???http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_56ab92ffe4b0010e80e9c6fa/amp
My #readingrecap for May has some good ones! Favorites: When Dimple Met Rishi (so cute I cant stand it) and Voices from Chernobyl (hard, but so good). Still in progress: The City of Mirrors and The Known World. 📚📚
Memorial Day weekend reading. 🌤📖I started the Underground Railroad last year but was crazy with work so ended up putting it on hold for months. Glad I'm finally getting back into it!
🎧Starting the final book in this trilogy on audio today! Crossing my fingers it ties everything together really well 🤞
Y'all, I need to rant really quick. I've heard great things about the Farseer Trilogy so I decided to buy the series. I ordered them used on Amazon, because I am not made of money. I picked out MATCHING paperbacks because I am not an animal, so imagine my surprise when I opened my packages to find THIS. 😡😡 Also, why are book 1 and book 3 not the same height?? Whose bright idea was that? I'm not the only crazy one who needs them to match, right?
This was great but I feel weird saying I loved it given the dark subject matter (I felt similarly about Columbine, tagged in the comments). The Chernobyl disaster occurred in 1986, the year I was born, so I really knew very little about what occurred. Alexievich focuses on the everyday people in the area, coping as best they can, some of whom want to remember and some for whom the memories are too painful. Utterly compelling. #translatedbooks
Required reading for work. I'm not sure it was all that helpful. But then again, I've read a lot of Myers Briggs stuff in the past which I liked better. 🤷♀️ Anyone have a good business book they liked/found helpful?
Well, that was a fun ride! Time traveling historians, adventures with dinosaurs and the library at Alexandria, and a dash of romance. 😊 There are 9 books in the series so far so I'm looking forward to the rest!
Took advantage of a beautiful afternoon and finished Alanna at the park. 😎☀️📚I can't believe I never read this series as a kid - I would have loved it! Already put book 2 on hold at the library. 💜
