I loved everything about this book and Gabourey Sidibe. I've never watched anything she's been in, and have only seen her be totally charming in interviews. The book buzz intrigued me so I gave it a swing. She's as charming and funny and honest on the page as in interviews. Her family and life stories are fascinating, and it was a fast and fun read. I was sad for it to end, and I'm definitely going to check out her acting work.

I mean, I guess it was ok. It was an interesting twist in theories. Usually, I'm down for an unlikeable narrator, but I just couldn't make myself care about any of the voices in the book.

ericarobynreads I felt the same way. The book was so bland and seemed to drag. 7y

Night Film: A Novel | Marisha Pessl

I'm catching up on logging a few books. So, I enjoyed this one overall, and there were sections that read like a house on fire. Then there were a couple of parts that made me roll my eyes and I felt went on too long. The atmosphere is gloomy and creepy and fantastic. The format is fun, and if you're looking for a chance to follow the string on a mystery this will fit the bill nicely.

This was so good. I enjoyed the hell out of it, and I'm just assuming it's going to be adapted into a movie soon. I am a sucker for a dirty cop or mob story with a rat who flips. The double-cross, the bargaining, the deals, and the fallout are always endlessly intriguing to me.

A fairy tale about little girl dreamed up in a snowstorm was oddly delightful in the middle of the sweltering Summer heat. This book was lovely from start to finish.

I think maybe I just wasn't in the right mood for this one. Objectively, I know it was good, but I just didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. It could also be the after effect of hearing so many folks speak so highly of it.🤷🏻‍♀️

Oh, to have been a fly on the Lockwood family walls. I enjoyed this memoir very much, and was amazed that a person in my age wheelhouse wrote it. Her writing is gorgeous and has some of the most beautiful sentences I've read. I did listen to this one on audio, and would recommend it in that format simply for the voices the author does.

This was a long haul, but well worth it. Yes, it was tedious at points, but I honestly don't know what could have been omitted. I don't know if it's reassuring or terrifying that pilot leaders have fought so with such vitriol since the beginning of the union.

If they decide to shoot any of the TV series here at the real place I will likely lose my mind with joy.

So, I didn't love this as much as Bird Box, but it was still very good. I think it will be near impossible to re-capture the lightening in the bottle feel of Bird Box, though, so it's not a true or fair comparison. Malerman is so so so wonderful at the creepy, ominous buildup, and this read is worth it alone. I also love how both books have each played with a sense, and I wonder if he will continue on that theme.

Maybe it's because I'm on a beach with (what I deem to be) too many people. Maybe it's because since I've married and had children I fantasize about escaping. Maybe it's because I asked my husband for two weeks of solitude on the AT for my next milestone birthday. Regardless, I dug this read. The books to the the right of the horse, and the horse, are compliments of our beach condo this week. 😂#beachreads

Doughty doesn't shy away from death, and she doesn't want us to, either. I've long been a proponent of more ecologically sound ways to dispose of remains, and this read reinforced that belief. There is a major squick factor at parts, and some really heartbreaking scenes as well. However, her direct, thoughtful, and often funny delivery made an often difficult subject very interesting.
