As usual M. J. Carter transports us back in time, here to 1842, with marvelous historical details. William Avery takes the lead with the talented Jeremiah Blake masquerading as a man service while evading Collinson‘s demands.

bailedI read this as part of Penguin's First to Read program. I went in open minded, but I couldn't even make myself finish. The plot and characters are all derivative and the pacing is glacial. This was just not for me at all.
February round up! I felt like I barely read at all this month. But somehow it added up to 1 novella, 1 kids' book, and 10 books! My two favorites are in the middle. #booknerd #februarystats
It is grossly unfair I have to wait longer than the full gestation of a human child to read this book.
