A Conspiracy of Paper
A Conspiracy of Paper | David Liss
6 posts | 14 read | 12 to read
Benjamin Weaver is an outsider in eighteenth-century London: a Jew among Christians; a ruffian among aristocrats; a retired pugilist who, hired by London's gentry, travels through the criminal underworld in pursuit of debtors and thieves. In A CONSPIRACY OF PAPER, Weaver must investigate a crime of the most personal sort, involving the mysterious death of his estranged father, a notorious stockdealer. To find the answers, Weaver contends with a garrulous prostitute who knows too much about his past, estranged relatives who remind him of his alienation from the Jewish faith, and a group of powerful men in the world of finance who have disguised their business dealings with an intricate web of deception and violence. Relying on brains and brawn, Weaver uncovers the beginnings of a strange new economic order based on stock speculation - a way of life that poses great risk for investors, but real danger for Weaver and his family.

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join the fun if you want.

Two holds came in within 10 minutes of each other tonight! Ruhroh. I‘ve had the book on the right on hold for ages. Just heard about the tagged book (on the left). My client said, “you read historical fiction? You HAVE to read this!” Let‘s see what I think!

britt_brooke I swear this happens to me more often than not. 😬 #booknerdproblems 6y
Copwithabook I feel you! I have four checked out right now with 11 days left. 6y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @Megabooks I was going to read Flyover Country next, but not anymore!! The nonfiction book is almost 500 pages, so I‘ve got to get cracking. 6y

Pickpick

Have read it many times. Aside from the lack of synonyms for “astonish,” I love it.

So I just figured out that Goodreads was missing a bunch of my "finished reading" dates and filled in the ones I could figure out. Turns out setting my reading goal for 2017 at 52 books wasn't anywhere near as much of a stretch as I thought it'd be ? I read way more than I thought I did!

Anyone have a better way to track their books?

#SeasonsReadings2016- #multiplecopies- I think this may be the first book that I had to have in physical form, after having bought and read the ebook. I really really liked this book.

I hate moving but in doing so, as I have been unpacking books onto my increased number of bookshelves, I have found many books that I own duplicate copies because they were previously stored in boxes and I forgot that I had them.
