1940s curry! Not bad, but modern variants are much better in my opinion... (paper bowls not because we‘re environmental terrorists, but because our well water is currently contaminated with e. coli! Good times!)

Herb sauce from the 1940s!
#OldCoolBooks #monograph
Catch up from yesterday. I don't know if a cookbook can be considered a monograph but since this 1945 one is "...devoted entirely to dishes which the author believes taste better when herbs are used." I'm going to go for it. ?The "Fashion Is Spinach" book that it is compared to on the cover blurb is a classic autobiographical critique and expose of the fashion industry that sounds pretty cool too.
#QuotsyMay18 #sage ?
Going for the herb sage with quotes from this little cookbook, published in 1939. My edition is from 1945.
About the proverb, above:
"This much-quoted couplet gives Sage its traditional significance of immortality. Also the wise one ages ago believed that if the household prospers, the Sage about it grows strong, especially if the wife rules the house. But just keep that fact under the hat, for it is dangerous knowledge."
Day19 #feistyfeb #boughtonvacation When you try to set up a quick back drop for a cookbook pic on the couch & someone comes out & decides the bed tray & apron would be a comfy spot to take a nap. Sigh...?❤️I don't buy a lot of books on vacation but I do make pilgrimages to Powell's & other used book stores when I visit family in PDX. This little 1945 cookbook is full of recipes/lore about herbs. Who can resist a chapter titled "Cockle Warmers?"?
