Death of a Glutton
Death of a Glutton | M. C. Beaton
7 posts | 11 read | 5 to read
Her table manners were a crime. But she didn't deserve to die! There's not a cloud in Hamish Macbeth's sky - just plenty of warm sunshine but not quite enough of the lovely Priscilla Halburton-Smythe. But as eight hopeful members of the Checkmate Singles Club converge on Tommel Castle Hotel for a week of serious matchmaking, the clouds roll in. The four couples, carefully matched by dating director Maria Worth, immediately dislike one another. And the arrival of Maria's gross, greedy business partner, Peta, kills the last vestige of romance. And as love goes out the window, murder comes in the door. Peta soon slurps up her last meal and Hamish is left with the baffling puzzle: Who shared the fateful outing that left Peta dead with a large rosy red apple in her mouth...

I could really feel the hatred for the glutton in this book from each character. I even started to feel a hatred for her myself after the first few chapters!
Bloody brilliant!
Just like Agatha Raisins, 'As the pig turns' in this novel an apple in the mouth of the murdered made it a very good way to remember the storyline.
Definitely recommend.

SW-T Sounds very intriguing! 6y

Amazon (US) is promoting 9 foreign-language titles translated into English, and I think I need them all. #gimmefreebie

Instead of reading, I need to spend time tutoring and checking this pile of notebooks and 1984 projects. 💪🏼👩🏻‍🏫🤓 #TeachersofLitsy

Ranchan I have so many essays about 1984 to grade too... Having read the book now, I'm even less keen to read the essays 🤣🙈 7y

Hamish is a lovable guy, but this one was a little too unpleasant and silly for me. There - I'm caught up. Sorry to clutter up my friends' feeds!

Thought I might get a paper copy of my next Hamish Macbeth mystery to take with me traveling. You will get a chuckle out of this, @LauraBrook .

LauraBrook @Readerann Hah! Oh my gosh, that's CRAZY!!!! I take it you bought two copies just bc it's so affordable? 😉😉🤣 8y
LauraBrook If I owned a copy of this, I'd send it to you, by the way. And this is so nuts, I'm still chuckling! 8y
Readerann Update: I found one on eBay for $3.99. Good thing I decided not to go for that new copy at $503! 😂 8y

LauraBrook @Readerann Are you planning on doing Dewey's this weekend? 8y
Readerann @LauraBrook Absolutely doing Dewey's! Hoping to get my stack together tomorrow. Can't wait to 'hang out' with you again! 8y
LauraBrook @Readerann Excellent! I don't have a stack yet either, and I still need to get some groceries in the house, and prep my poor old blog - oh yeah, and sign up! 😉 8y

Another delightful outing to the Scottish Highlands with Hamish Macbeth and the village of Lochdubh. These are lovely visits although M C Beaton does have a habit of creating a horrible character in these books that everyone wants to kill. Then it is left to Hamish to try and unearth the murderer which he does in a very quiet manner much to the chagrin of Detective Inspector Blair. A good series for light enjoyable reading.
