"A beautifully written novel about living with our many selves." - Nicola Keegan, author of "Swimming" ""Clare Moorhouse, the American wife of a high-ranking diplomat in Paris, is arranging an official dinner crucial to her husband's career. As she shops for fresh stalks of asparagus and works out the menu and seating arrangements, her day is complicated by the unexpected arrival of her son and a random encounter with a Turkish man, whom she discovers is a suspected terrorist. More unnerving is a recurring face in the crowd, one that belonged to another, darker era of her life. One she never expected to see again. Like Virginia Woolf did in "Mrs. Dalloway," Anne Korkeakivi brilliantly weaves the complexities of an age into an act as deceptively simple as hosting a dinner party.

Mehso-so

Book #8 for #15books15weeks. This one was ok. Really good & intriguing at times, boring at other times. Overall, a good story that maybe should have been a slightly shorter book? Clare Moorehouse is an American married to a British diplomat. The story takes place over approx. 24 hours with flashbacks to her life & actions 25 years ago & how that is affecting her at the present. How her perception & presumptions of those events are haunting her.

I know I'm not the only person to receive 30 copies of this book. But I can not find the originator. Guess I need to contact Hatchett about the boo boo. Maybe they will let me give them away.

Read4life Maybe they've heard about the amazing bookmarks you make that we keep raving about and are hoping you'll send them back with book themed bookmarks. 😆 7y
LibrarianRyan @Read4life 😆 if only I had the time. But if I get to give them away, maybe. 7y

Linear Hey isn't that the same book that I saw someone else get 30 copies of? Maybe there's a statement here. I mean the book is called unexpected guest, you were only expecting one book not 30. Get it? LOL 7y

LibrarianRyan @Linear love it!!!! Yes. Someone else had the same thing happen but I couldn't find it to tag them. 7y
sprainedbrain It sounds like one of those 'book club' giveaways... if you win you get enough for you and a bunch of friends to read it together. Just let me know if you're looking for book club members. 😂 7y

Johanna414 Did you order a copy personally and get 30 or were they sent to your library? 7y
Bklover Wow!! What a haul! 🎉🎉🎉 7y
LibrarianRyan @Johanna414 I won it on Goodreads. 7y
Johanna414 @LibrarianRyan I don't know if that makes it more bizarre or less... 7y
LibrarianRyan @Johanna414 I'm not the only person who had this happen. Another Litten had the same thing with the same book title happen. She was being sent a return shipping label. I'm guessing all 30 winners will experience this. 7y
Smangela Whoa 😳 that's quite a mix up! 7y
LeahBergen Sneak a copy out for me. 😂😂 7y
LibrarianRyan @LeahBergen if I do not hear back by Friday I'm giving them away. 7y
