Okay, here's a fun and not scary #allhallowsread pick! My pick is actually a novella that is a follow up to the tagged book (since the novella is not in the Litsy database). I adored this book and the novella was a nice way to revisit characters from the book that I loved. You could probably read it without having read the first book but you would enjoy it a lot more if you read Know Not Why. 👀

My August fave for #somethingforsept! This book was exactly what I needed when I read it - laugh out loud funny and very cute. It managed to be fairly lighthearted and real despite the MC's coming out struggles. For my own self-care, I try not to read too many coming out narratives that are especially dark or hate-filled. This story managed to stay positive and realistic while also acknowledging the internalized homophobia the MC was experiencing.

My #augustwrapup for #augustofpages #photochallenge. Looking at my list my total is 15 not 14 but I don't want to redo my graphic 😆😆. Not too shabby with number of books read, but this month was a little low in number of books I read that were written by POC. Something to improve upon next month!

Yournewfriendsams 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 8y
BookishFeminist But at least you more than made up for it in queer books and books by women! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 you read a lot! 8y
Yamich49 @Yournewfriendsams Thank you. 🤓 8y

Yamich49 @BookishFeminist Yeah August was a good reading month for me. 👍🏽👍🏽 True, but clearly I just need to find more books by queer women of color. 😉 8y
Eyelit 👏📚👏💚 8y
Shortstack 👏👏👏👏 if it makes you feel better I read zero books by POC this month. 😬😬😬 Though I know at least 2 in September will be! 8y
Lindy Some queer POC authors you might like: Dionne Brand, Shani Mootoo & Malinda Lo. 8y
Yamich49 @Eyelit Thanks! 8y
Yamich49 @Shortstack haha that does make me feel a little better. I have plenty of my TBR shelves that would fit the bill I just get too caught up with new books that sound good. 😆 8y
Yamich49 @Lindy Ooo thanks for the recs!! I've read Ash and enjoyed it but I've been meaning to check out the rest of Lo's books! 👍🏽👍🏽 8y
BookishFeminist And this one (which I think you already know about?) 8y
Yamich49 @BookishFeminist oooo that one looks good! It's on my Litsy TBR, I think from your post but I'll add it to my bookstore notebook so it doesn't get lost in the other 1000+ books I have on my TBR. 😂😂 And YES! I just got Under the Udala Trees on audiobook which I'm super excited for! #damnitlitsy but in a good way 😉 8y
Shortstack @Yamich49 it's hard to juggle multiple priorities. I have to juggle diversity with fun, new books, with novel research and classic literature (which is predominantly dead white men) So, I hear you. I'm looking forward to reading Bad Feminist and Americanah next month though!!! 8y
Shortstack @BookishFeminist that reminds me, I'm going to delay Dante and Aristotle for Americanah 8y
Yamich49 @Shortstack Definitely! I have way too many interests to keep up and I tend to go through phases in which I am really into a certain type of book for a few weeks so that always throw me off too! I still need to read both of those 👀 8y
Yamich49 @Shortstack also Ari and Dante are my children but I guess it's okay if you wait a bit longer to read them - might be nice to follow up Americanah with that one. 😆 8y
Shortstack @Yamich49 Americanah is a book club pick for next month so I want to get it read early!! 😂 8y
BookishFeminist @Shortstack That's acceptable! I worship at the alter of Chimamanda so you won't hear dissent from me. Also, remember that lemonade read along we're doing? I was planning to make an official announcement tomorrow but our first book will be Americanah 🎉🎉🙌🏼 so it works out for you! 8y
Shortstack @BookishFeminist I thought you had already announced it and that's why it was on my priority list next!! 😂😂😂 8y
BookishFeminist @Shortstack 😂😂😂 not officially! I had to work details out & figure out a time frame etc. officially announcing tomorrow since it's the first & will do a poll for when people want to discuss the book- though I'm leaning toward a mid-October discussion so people have a full month for Americanah since its long. (And to stagger with the other book clubs on here) 8y
Shortstack @BookishFeminist if it's that far off I may sneak in D&A first! 8y
BookishFeminist @Yamich49 You haven't read Americanah or Bad Feminist yet? 👀👀👀 I just caught that in this conversation but consider yourself peer pressured now that you got me to read Ari & Dante and watch Hannibal 8y
BookishFeminist @Shortstack Whatever works with your reading schedule! Since it's just starting we're allowing for some flexibility so people can make it fit with their schedules & for us to play around with logistics a bit. First time I'm organizing something like this so I want to make sure I don't fuck it up lol 8y
Yamich49 @BookishFeminist Haha I know! Well I was playing on trying to follow along with the Lemonade read along so I'll have to buy Americanah! 8y
BookishFeminist @Yamich49 Chop chop! 👏🏼👏🏼 😂 that's okay you're a fast reader and have a little bit to get the book. I need to find a copy too so I can reread- not dogearing and flagging my inscribed/signed one! 🙅🏻 8y
Shortstack @BookishFeminist @Yamich49 I'm just doing an audiobook. 😬 8y
Yamich49 @Shortstack @BookishFeminist Audiobook of Americanah or Ari & Dante? The Ari and Dante audiobook is superb so I highly rec that one. Audiobooks rock 🤘🏼 8y
Yamich49 @Shortstack 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 8y
BookishFeminist @Shortstack I've heard the audio for Americanah is good! 8y
Shortstack @BookishFeminist I adored the demo. It's what sold me on audio versus book. That and knowing it will be a credit well spent. 😂 8y
BookishFeminist @Shortstack you know, I've never tried listening to a demo for audiobooks 😂 maybe I should start 8y
Shortstack @BookishFeminist I buy a lot of the daily deals and sales and sometimes they are cheap for a reason. I've been burned too many times and try to listen to most of them before I buy. Unless I'm buying like 9 for $2-3 like I did today. 👀😂 8y
Yamich49 @Shortstack Right? I bought a bunch of audiobooks when the sale first started and may have bought a few more yesterday 👀 8y
BookishFeminist @Yamich49 😂😂😂 you went back for more!!! 8y
Shortstack @Yamich49 Bwhahahaha! That's why I waited till today to buy!! 😂😂 8y
Yamich49 @BookishFeminist @Shortstack 😬😬 I did. I was reading Book Riot's list of recs from the sale and realized I needed to get a couple more. 💸💸💸 8y
Shortstack @Yamich49 what did they recommend? 👀 8y
Shortstack @Yamich49 I only bought two off the list but I'd read several more. I'm still happy with my purchase... I think. 😂 8y
Yamich49 @Shortstack I'm impressed with your powers of resistance. 👏🏽👏🏽 8y

One of the best things about this book is the MC's mom, a Professor, writes Jane Austen erotica. 😂

BookishFeminist I have a friend that writes gay erotica fanfic that's a mashup of Captain America & Jane Austen 😂😂 8y
kammartinez @BookishFeminist That kind of fanfic is so absurdly up my alley. Does this friend of yours publish online? What's their pseudonym? 8y
BookishFeminist @kammartinez 😂😂😂 I have to check - it's in an invite-only fanfic community online, so not publicly online. 8y

BookishFeminist @kammartinez Are you on Archive of Our Own? It's on there- if you are let me know and I'll send you her handle somehow. Instagram maybe? I don't want to post it here in the open since she's silly and uses her name as her handle 😂 8y
Sue I clearly need this in my life!! 😂 8y
kammartinez @BookishFeminist I am on AO3, yes :D. My Instagram is open for a PM: @kamreadsandrecs :D. 8y
BookishFeminist @kammartinez Sent! She's going to be thrilled 😂👍🏼 8y
Elisa Hahaha, love it!! 👏🏼👏🏼 8y
ReviewsandReadathons After seeing all your posts about this book, I'm definitely adding it to my TBR. It looks like so much fun. 8y
Yamich49 @BookishFeminist Okay you can't said Jane Austen and Captain America gay erotica fanfic and not send me the link!!! You have my Instagram! 👀🙏🏼 8y
Yamich49 @Simplerevelry It is very fun! I recommend it, especially if you need a break from serious books and want something that will make you laugh and die of cuteness! 8y
BookishFeminist @Yamich49 Hahahahaha how could I forget? Go to Archive of Our Own online and request an invite (I wish I had one to email you) and then once you're on it I will give you her handle! If you have issues getting an invite I will totally copy and paste that shit for you in an email because I'm sure she won't mind. 8y
Yamich49 @BookishFeminist Oh don't worry - I'm already on there! 😉 I think it's cute that you think I'm innocent enough not to have voyaged into the slashfic black hole that is Archive of Our Own. 🤓 I just didn't feel like searching for it myself and losing days reading all the related fanfic. 😆 8y
BookishFeminist @Yamich49 HAHAHAHA of course you are why was this even a question. 😂😂😂 i totally should have known my bad. I'm DYING. I'll message you on Instagram 😉 8y

Pickpick

This book is adorable! I may have squeed out loud a few times. And laughed out loud too. Great characters and relationships (romantic, friendship and familial). Minimal angst - of the 'scared to come out with some internalized homophobia' variety. A lot of great literary references and modern lingo (a few 'hos' that I didn't love but these were more said in jest since the MC word vomits all over the place when nervous). Great, heartwarming story.

thegirlwiththelibrarybag Ahh word vomit (my old nemesis) totally just bought this for my kindle ☺️ 8y
Yamich49 @thegirlwiththelibrarybag Ahhh! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. It's a lot of fun, just get past the very beginning - it gets much better! 8y
Yamich49 I forgot, this was book five for #bookisholympics 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag Excellent! I've bought so many ebooks since joining Litsy 😂 but I loved all the quotes from this that you posted so hopefully I'll get to this soon! 8y

"I'm kind of going through a thing here that you probably went through a long time ago, unless you didn't go through it all because you're just all together, like, you popped out of the womb, all, 'Thanks for squeezing me out, Mom; no more pussy for me.'" ???

RealLifeReading Hmm there is no description of this book in Litsy! I'm so curious about it after reading all the quotes you've featured! 8y
Yamich49 @RealLifeReading How weird! I think it's self-published so maybe that's why? Basically this guy starts working at an arts and crafts store to pick up women (lol) but starts realizing that he may be a little interested in his male boss. It is adorable and very funny so far! It's only $1.99 on kindle I think! 8y

SAME ????

Zelma Don't you just want to hand someone a book instead of having a tough conversation or argument sometimes? 8y

"I don't say anything. I don't really know what to say, besides, like, 'Har dee har, how 'bout that universe and its unending quest to make us gay for each other - are those some hilarious hijinks or what?'"

I'm trying really hard to limit the number of quotes I post but it's difficult! I love this narrator. ?

CaitlinSiem I'm not one for self pub books usually with few exceptions (here's looking at you Nora Sakavic) but these quotes are seriously making me curious about this book. 8y
Yamich49 @CaitlinSiem It's super cute and funny so far! 8y

LMAO. Calm down dude.

Fun fact - I did not know what Porphyria was before reading this passage.

CaitlinSiem And now I can have something to talk about with my Nurse Practitioner mother, because I didn't know what that was until now either haha. 8y

😆 This kid is cracking me up! That's what happens in Vermont, right?

"'Poptarts are not the answer to our horny, sick, sad friend's problems,' Amber says...
'Amber,' he says imploringly, 'the s'more kind.'
Amber eyes me, this 'there's no way you're gonna fall for this, right?' look.
I stare back, then conclude, truthfully, 'Poptarts are awesome.'
'Okay,' Amber says, pushing the cart forward with sudden, scary fervor. 'You guys are idiots.'"

Definitely getting a Hermione exasperated w/ Ron and Harry vibe here. ?

Okay so I fell down a Kindle rabbit hole last night and ended up with about ten new books that were all on sale for .99-2.99 each. I could have bought one new book on kindle that I really want instead of ten random ones. 😆 This one sounds fun - boy gets a job in arts and crafts store to impress girls and maybe ends up falling for the other boy working there? 😀😀 Book five for #bookisholympics and happy for tribal holidays and three-day weekends!

RealLifeReading Five??? You're definitely getting a gold medal! I'm struggling to finish even one. Haha. 8y
Yamich49 @RealLifeReading Haha, I'm definitely on a roll! Trying to get a bunch done over my long weekend because I know I'll have trouble getting a lot of reading done during the week! You just keep going@- it's not a competition! LOL. Well, it kind of is but only in a "we're all nerdy readers and this is just pushing us to make a little more time to read" way. 8y
Megabooks I bought this one too, but I haven't started it yet. 8y
Yamich49 @Ebooksandcooks You should try it! I really enjoyed it - it was a fun and fast read. 8y
