Death-Watch
Death-Watch | John Dickson Carr
5 posts | 2 read | 4 to read
In the shadowy hallway of clockmaker Johannes Carver's house a policeman is found murdered, the arrow-tipped minute hand of an antique clock embedded in his neck. For Dr Gideon Fell this is the only case that has ever really frightened him, and before he can solve it he must find answers to some seemingly impossible questions: why was Calvin Boscombe standing near the corpse with a silencer on his gun? Who locked the attic door? And what has become of the sixteenth-century death-watch?

Pickpick

A Pick, but only just. It works best when read in a distraction-free environment. And of Carr's sleuths, I definitely prefer Gideon Fell to M. Bencolin. But I am not crazy about locked-room mysteries.

Turns out the only other post about this book so far is also by me for a photo challenge, AND it's basically the same photo ? The detective is Gideon "If I" Fell. #HeyJune

A spare John Dickson Carr from my friend who collects them. She is a devotee of JDC. I admire his ability to devise fiendish plots but can get frustrated by how utterly unsolvable by the reader they are.

LauraBrook I've only been able to get my hands on 2 of his books - why isn't he more well known?!? Even Dame Agatha loved him! 7y
rabbitprincess @LauraBrook I know eh? Especially because he was so prolific. 7y
