#MagicalMay Day 6: #NursesDay reminded me of this picturebook featuring fantastic women including Mrs Seacole who happened to be a half Scottish, half Jamaican nurse who joined a group of medical professionals to help out soldiers during the Crimean War. I am sufficiently intrigued to seek out more books about her. Share it with your young female readers who will undoubtedly be inspired to change the world. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-hMy

Unhauling.... my entire library. Except my Pratchett, GRRM, Anske/Lovecraft and my classics because apparently I‘ve had a meltdown. 🤷🏼‍♀️😳 Can‘t turn back now though as I‘ve agreed to sell the lot! Best get packing! What kind of crazy moment did I have this morning!? 😳😳😳 #unhaul #unhauling #whydididothis #illhavenolibraryleft

Cathythoughts Spontaneous moment you had ! And one you can undo. I‘m a spontaneous type as well ... it can be great & entusiastic & sometimes we regret ....... sounds like you saved the day though ❤️ actually I‘m confused about the outcome ... what happened in the end ?? (edited) 6y
Cinfhen It‘s good to purge every so often...u can always buy again 😊 6y
Sophoclessweetheart @Cathythoughts Spontaneous indeed. A moment of madness. The outcome is that I have to sell the books. I‘d already agreed to it before starting to pack them and the courier is coming to collect them in the morning. Can‘t back out now - what‘s done in done. All I can do is remind myself never to do this again and then look forward to replacing them like @Cinfhen says 🖤🖤🖤👀👀👀 6y

tpixie @Cinfhen purging is good! They will always be in your heart!! We need to learn to declutter! ♥️♥️♥️ 6y
Sophoclessweetheart @tpixie I‘m trying to look on the bright side. Purging means new books 😹😹🖤 6y
Cathythoughts @tpixie @Cinfhen yes @Wanderingwithwords I absolutely agree we need to declutter ... 6y
tpixie @Cathythoughts but it's terribly hard!!! 6y
tpixie @Wanderingwithwords lol right because now you‘re going to have more money to buy some! 6y
GatheringBooks well you can always change your mind! ;) 6y
wanderinglynn I did a major purged once. I ended up rebuying most of what I purged. 😂 Now I am very careful about purging too much. 6y
Cathythoughts @tpixie I find it easier to declutter now than when I was younger.... letting go 6y
tpixie @Cathythoughts yes- I moved to a smaller house and that helped. ( and seeing how much grandparents kept in their house that nobody really wanted once they passed made me realize we hold onto stuff a little longer than we need to) 6y

I read these lovely little picture books on international woman‘s day. They‘re for children so after reading them I promptly gave them to my three year old daughter to add to her library. I love books like these for her. And what lovely books these ones are. I adored them! Have you read them? #booklover #bookstagram #bookaddict #bookreviewer #bookblogger #prettybooks #prettycovers #bookish #readwomen

laurieluna Lovely to have you back on here. 😊 xx 6y
Sophoclessweetheart @miralunasbooknook I‘m already remembering why I loved it so much before ! 6y

So we just finished watching the TV series of The Handmaid's Tale. Wow, in the most terrible way. I think I'll be reading this with my little girl and hugging her a bit tighter today. It has also made me want to read Margaret Atwood - I'm not sure I've ever finished any of her books. Any recommendations where to start? Which is your favourite? #raisingreaders

i.z.booknook Yay!! I finished the series the other day too! Absolutely loved it! It can be quite different to the books in parts but both are amazing and well worth it! Enjoy! 7y
BarbaraBB Atwood is great! My favourites (besides The Handmaid's Tale) are 7y

JillR Thanks @BarbaraBB - @chloetallis has loaned me Alias Grace so I might bump it up my TBR :) 7y
Cathythoughts The TV Handmaids Tale was excellent! I agree. I also read & recommend Alias Grace & The Blind Assassin. More recently I read The Heart Goes Last , another dystopian story, it was excellent too. (edited) 7y
JillR Thank you @cathythoughts - I know I had a copy of the Blind Assassin years ago but I have no recollection whether I read any of it or where it has gone 😳 7y

'Just try telling Mary Seacole that she couldn't do something. It would only make her more determined to follow her heart.' ... this is the kind of book I want my daughter to read.

Six year old Bella was outraged at Sir Walter Elliot's thoughts in the Jane Austen section. I've also found nine year old Seth pouring over this book; it's great 👍 #raisingreaders
