League of American Traitors
League of American Traitors | Matthew Landis
7 posts | 7 read | 1 to read
Those who don’t know history are destined to repeat it . . . When seventeen year-old Jasper is approached at the funeral of his deadbeat father by a man claiming to be an associate of his deceased parents, he’s thrust into a world of secrets tied to America’s history—and he’s right at the heart of it. First, Jasper finds out he is the sole surviving descendant of Benedict Arnold, the most notorious traitor in American history. Then he learns that his father’s death was no accident. Jasper is at the center of a war that has been going on for centuries, in which the descendants of the heroes and traitors of the American Revolution still duel to the death for the sake of their honor. His only hope to escape his dangerous fate on his eighteenth birthday? Take up the research his father was pursuing at the time of his death, to clear Arnold’s name. Whisked off to a boarding school populated by other descendants of notorious American traitors, it’s a race to discover the truth. But if Jasper doesn’t find a way to uncover the evidence his father was hunting for, he may end up paying for the sins of his forefathers with his own life. Like a mash-up of National Treasure and Hamilton, Matthew Landis’s debut spins the what-ifs of American history into a heart-pounding thriller steeped in conspiracy, clue hunting, and danger.

Pickpick

I really enjoyed this! In this book the past is not dead, the feuds and betrayal of long ago are ever present for the descendants of history's greatest patriots and traitors. Thanks to an ancient code those descendants are bound to duel each other upon their 18th birthday but things go awry when new info comes to light that America's greatest betrayer Benedict Arnold may not be all that history's made him out to be. Great twist on US history!

Page 1. How to immediately tell the author of the book you're reading is not from the Midwest.

MayJasper What would you write if you were? 😊 6y
ralexist @MayJasper - We call them Semis, singular = Semi. Short for semi-trailer since the trailer doesn't have four wheels. I get the tractor-trailer thing, I just find it hard to say since tractors aren't what's usually hauled by them these days. But I also say soda, while everyone else here in MN says pop 🙂 (edited) 6y
LauraBeth That‘s what we call them in the south 😀 6y
MayJasper Very interesting, thanks @ralexist. I say pop too, but the usual term here (Midlands, UK) is fizzy drinks. 6y
Amie We say "semi" here in Ohio too. Tractor means farm equipment to me ? 6y

Gorgeous cover but nonsense on the inside. The story has merit, it could have been so good had the characters had absolutely any personality like at all. It's blurbed as National Treasure meets Hamilton and both of those beat out this book. Jasper had a chance and it just fell through. I just wish it had gotten another edit run through, I feel like that would have greatly improved this book.

Needed a break from Tiger Lily. So I thought I'd switch to this book and see if I could make a bigger dent in it during the @24in48 #Readathon.
Not sure how I feel about this one yet. But I guess I'll find out soon. 😉 #historicalfiction #histfic #yalit #24in48

So far, this book is snarky and has more twists and turns than any spy novel I've read in a long time. You're definitely going to want to get your hands on this book when it comes out next month!
