This starts off quite well but soon gets bogged down. DI Alex King is the usual 'police detective with a broken relationship'. DC Chloe Lane, meanwhile, comes across as more of a stroppy teenager than a young woman with a promising career. The plot itself is okay but nothing different to what has already been done a thousand times before. 2.5⭐

I went on a buying spree this morning. The last two I bought the physical book, the others are ebooks. The first three were a series at $2.99 each. Caught in Time is the third in the Kendra Donovan series, Stay Hidden is the ninth in the Mike Bowditch series and To Die But Once is Maisie Dobbs number 14. I do love a good series!

I give this book a rating of 4 stars. This was Victoria Jenkin‘s debut novel. I found that the book starts out kind of slow but it very quickly picks up the pace. It kept me guessing until the end. I found it very hard to put it down. I really liked the characters in the book and found that they were very likeable. I highly recommend it and I can‘t wait to read the second book in the series, The First One to Die!

If you enjoy reading fast-paced and well written detective thrillers I can definitely recommend The Girls In The Water. Both the writing style and pace made me fly through this serial killer thriller and the case itself was intriguing as well. Lots of plot twists and potential suspects to keep you guessing and that is always a bonus! I wasn‘t completely charmed by the characters, but I still managed to very much enjoy it.

4/5 stars

I was able to spend some time reading tonight with my favorite reading buddy... Lila never complains as long as I let her sleep on the bed. 😹😻

LauraJ That's my tabby's favorite spot...curled up against my gut. 7y
yvo_about_books @LauraJ Lila loves it there as well... Although either the spot behind my knees or basically immobilizing my arm are other favorites. 😉 I'm not complaining; who can say no to that face? 😻 7y

I managed to get some blogging done this evening even though Lila was determined to demand all my attention instead. 😹 Now it's time to see if I can finally properly start with The Girls In The Water tonight!

This is a great debut from Victoria Jenkins and one of the best books I've read from NetGalley. I look forward to reading more about Alex King and Chloe Lane! Publishing date is August 2017.

Recommended for Robert Bryndza fans, this was a great introduction to this new series. It seems to have two separate crimes--the girls in the water and Det. Chloe's brothers death--that somehow weave together. Parts are slow, but I attribute that to having to introduce new characters & create background. 4 ⭐️ #bookrec

yvo_about_books Sounds great! Definitely looking forward to this one now. 7y

What a brilliant debut novel will look out for more from this rising author. Fast paced book that just keeps you turning the pages. Alex and Chloe make a brilliant partnership and over the course of the book you get to know them in greater depth. Very engaging thriller
