Every generation thinks that it is special: that the great fall will occur before their time is up. Every generation is wrong. Until now. Palmer's family has never been the same since their father walked out on them. His youngest brother, Rob, never met the man. Their middle brother, Connor, wants to follow in his footsteps. Their sister, Vic, has been trying to run away from her past for as long as they can remember. And their mother is just trying to survive. Palmer just wants to prove himself to his family, and has agreed to go on a sand-dive to find the lost city of Danvar. If he succeeds, the rewards will be like none ever before. Or so he thinks. For there are people who want Danvar found for different reasons. Dangerous reasons. And they are willing to kill for it.

Beatlefan129 I saw this and immediately the theme song started playing in my head “Like sand through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives” 7mo

rubyslippersreads I used to watch this with my grandma. 7mo

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks We used to watch this everyday! We see the timer on the vcr and watched it after school! 7mo
TheBookgeekFrau @rubyslippersreads @Mollyanna @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks The only daytime soaps I watched were Santa Barbara (which was new and is didn't last too long), and another one that was aimed at teens but wasn't on very long. I don't remember the name of it, all I remember is one of the moms was dating a nightclub owner and the daughter was sure he was in the mafia 🤷🏻‍♀️ This would've been the early 80s 7mo
Eggs I used to watch this one and Another World (with the twins) Marley and…? 6mo
TheBookgeekFrau @Eggs I remember my mother saying she used to watch Another World, too. But that's all I know about it. I only remember Days bc not only was the voice over kind of ominous sounding, but we had a miniature hour glass just like that one that I loved to play with ⏳⌛️😄 6mo
Reggie My cousin made us go home from hanging out with friends because it was the episode where they were going to exorcise Marlena because she was possessed. That was a lot for tv soaps back then. It was wild. Lol 6mo
TheBookgeekFrau @Reggie 😂 An exorcism episode is a legit reason to rush home 😈 6mo

Wool Omnibus I liked so much more. It feels like with this book there supposed to be something more, it feels unfinished, no conclusion.
Good dystopian nightmare idea, but I didn't like the style.
Nice element - the way the story was told through the viewpoints of the various members of one family.

First of all, I thought the idea of a world covered in sand was pretty original. This was intriguing and the idea of sand diving mimicking diving lnto water was original as well as the suits. The author gave us an interesting family dynamic to follow and fleshed out rather well.
However beginning and dropping storylines, going nowhere and that horrible ending left me flat cold. It was ok but not worth your time. Read his Wool trilogy instead

#aprilbookshowers A very messy #shelfie ! Just one of my many bookshelves, and this one is overdue for some sorting out.

BibliophileMomma Is that a hamburger phone?! 😬 8y
EvieBee I agree with @Tiffness83 ...the phone! 😍😍 Juno. 8y
KerriNTurner @Tiffness83 @EvieBee84 it is a hamburger phone! I bought it after seeing Juno 😆 Funny thing is, it works better than my regular phone! 8y

I read this rather quickly. It gave a very bleak view of the future which didn't limit my enjoyment of the story. I quite liked that the author added footnotes/glossary terms when he used nouns that he'd invented. The ending made me ponder over a possible sequel but sometimes a tale does just end.

I read the Wool trilogy a couple of years ago and was fully absorbed by it. This one is holding up well so far...

#aprilbookshowers #sequelplease I loved the way the ending was written, but at the same time it left so many loose threads! Back in 2015 Hugh Howey said he was working on a sequel due to demand, but no word since. Hope it's still happening!

Finally getting around to this one to kick off 2017! About half way and it's getting exciting! Mad Max meets National Treasure or something!

Finished this one late last night. The world building was what I've come to expect from Howey, but there definitely needs to be more. Really hoping for a sequel or prequel. Howey created a terrifying dystopian world that was so bleak and realistic that I found it hard to keep reading at times. It kept my heart racing throughout, and while satisfying, the ending was far too rushed. There is still so much untapped potential that I hope he revisits.

I love that this took place in Colorado! And I'm going to Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve next summer, so now I'll be properly terrified of drowning in a pile of sand.

I have started this book despite the fact that I have 3 books on hold for me at the library, and that I just started a lengthy book on my Kindle, and that I recently received my December BOTM shipment. I have a problem. But I'm trying to read as many books as I can before the apocalypse 😂

This was pretty good. The social structure and work building reminded me a lot of the Kevin Costner movie, Waterworld (so good!), but with sand instead of water. While I found this book enjoyable and wonderful, I found it a bit lacking compared to some of Howey's other novels. 3.5/5
