Lovely to see Rebecca Green's illustrations bringing to life another true story. Always happy to see new perspectives, diversity added to the books available to young readers.

A heavy topic for young ones, but written cautiously and respectfully. #BBRC A2Z

🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 Robert Munsch wrote a book from the letters that young Saoussan wrote to him about her journey to Canada after a war began in her home country. She had to learn a new language, a new culture, and new holidays. THIS is why I love him so much! 😍😍😍😍 #BBRC #A2Z @LibrarianRyan

#AnglophileApril Day 5: Saoussan is 7, and came from #SoFarAway where war is raging, their home ruined by bombs. The back cover indicated that the author was born in Lebanon and moved to Canada in 1989. In her new country, it was difficult for her to adjust because she didn‘t speak the language, and everything that the teacher says in her school was foreign to her. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-gzr - lovely book about finding home and deliverance

Reviewsbylola This sounds like a very important book. ♥️ 6y
Mdargusch That feeling about being a foreigner in a foreign land would be a great theme for children to read about! 6y

I was surprised that this has first been published quite a while ago. It feels current and relevant in helping children to understand the plight of refugees and the difficulties of adapting to life in a new country.

#AugustIsATrip Day 29: Saoussan is 7yo and in the 2nd grade. She came “from far away” where war is raging, and their home ruined by bombs. The back cover indicated that the author was born in Lebanon and moved to #Canada in 1989. In her new country, it was difficult for her to adjust because she didn‘t speak the language. 4⭐️. This is the true story of a little girl coming to a new world. Her new world does not have bombs and guns going off, but it does have strange languages, and scary paper skeleton. I love how this books makes being new easy for others to understand. It does not try to talk down to the kids it‘s meant for, or be too complicated for them to understand. It is a true tale everyone should read.

LibrarianJen Thanks for this! I'm totally adding it to my diversity arsenal. 7y
LibrarianRyan @LibrarianJen your welcome. I should have more multicultural coming next week or so. Just FYI this is an older book and this is a new edition so you may find it with different pictures but I'm not sure. I know the older version has a different cover. The Journey is also a good one about being a refugee. I can't immediately find it in litsy but I know I reviewed it a few months ago. I'll check for it and tag you later. 7y
LibrarianJen Thanks that would be great! 7y
