12 Days at Bleakly Manor
12 Days at Bleakly Manor: Book 1 in Once Upon a Dickens Christmas | Michelle Griep
6 posts | 6 read | 8 to read
A mysterious invitation to spend Christmas at an English manor home may bring danger...and love? England, 1851: When Clara Chapman receives an intriguing invitation to spend Christmas at an English manor home, she is hesitant yet feels compelled to attend--for if she remains the duration of the twelve-day celebration, she is promised a sum of one thousand pounds. But is she walking into danger? It appears so, especially when she comes face to face with one of the other guests--her former fianc?, Benjamin Lane. Imprisoned unjustly, Ben wants revenge on whoever stole his honor. When he's given the chance to gain his freedom, he jumps at it--and is faced with the anger of the woman he stood up at the altar. Brought together under mysterious circumstances, Clara and Ben discover that what they've been striving for isn't what ultimately matters. What matters most is what Christmas is all about . . . love. Pour a cup of tea and settle in for Book 1 of the Once Upon a Dickens Christmas series--a page-turning Victorian-era holiday tale--by Michelle Griep, a reader and critic favorite.

Come along and spend the 12 days of Christmas with a varied, odd and entertaining cast of characters. Each received an invitation, along with a challenge to stay at an English country estate for 12 days. Each guest was promised a reward which was unique to them if they completed their stay. Who was their host and what was his or her motive? Mysteries and a love story were seamlessly woven into the storyline. Such an enjoyable read!

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wow, I had no idea I would enjoy this book so much. Yet I can say without a doubt it's easily one of the best books I've read all year- possibly ever. It wasn't that it was some new fangled, never heard of before story concept or that it was full of huge "wham, bam, thank you mam" moments. What it was was a very well constructed, sweet mystery/romance that, like is the case with Christmas magic, just left me in awe. ❤️

Lmstraubie Sounds cute! I like a heartwarming Christmas story. 😊 7y
monkeygirlsmama @Ms_T @Lmstraubie It is! I was initially hesitant about reading this book outside the Christmas season. It was an ARC so I didn't have much choice if I wanted to get it. I absolutely loved it, however, and would whole heartedly recommend this as an ANY TIME OF YEAR read. It's set at Christmas time, but it isn't specifically a Christmas book. 🤜 (edited) 7y

#bookishquestionoftheweek @BookishGirl06

I am a big fan of horror, thrillers, mysteries, paranormal, some romance, MG/YA, contemporary, some light sci-fi/fantasy, some steampunk, and humor. I like fiction and non-fiction. Really, as is evident, I'm pretty unbiased when it comes to reading. 👍There are only a few genres I will actively shy away from. I really dislike most books that fall into these genres: western, military, and historical. 👎

I would give this a 3.5 or between a pick and a so-so. It was a sweet story of second chances and faith. A quick read (
