American Vampire
American Vampire | Scott Snyder
Writer Scott Snyder (BATMAN, SWAMP THING) and artist Rafael Albuquerque bring together even more threads to the complex tapestry that is the world of AMERICAN VAMPIRE. When we last saw Pearl in the 1950s, she had lost her love Henry in an attack on the vampire hunting organization, V.M.S., by a coven of Hollywood vampires that nearly wiped the organization off the face of the planet. Devastated and alone, Pearl is determained to leave California and all its painful memories behind. When we meet Pearl again, it is in 1960s Kansas, an era fraught with fear of nuclear war, angry demonstrations, and vast social change. What has changed in the years since the V.M.S. attack and where is Skinner Sweet? Collects AMERICAN VAMPIRE CYCLE TWO #1-5.

Glad that it got interesting again! Volume 7 was much better than the last. The Second Cycle storylines was captivating and the art was consistent with the rest of the series. This series has been a rollercoaster of ups and downs and I‘m not ready to see it end. Rest for Volume 8 to get here. #comic #graphicnovel

In an effort to get back on pace with my reading challenge, I‘ve picked up a couple of graphic novels I‘ve had my eye on in the stacks. Just started American Vampire today, and I‘m really liking it so far.

V is for Vampire
From the monster in ‘Salem‘s Lot, to the psychic vampire in the Dark Tower, to the story of the first American vampire, King has used this creature to evoke deep fears of helplessness in his characters & his readers. Sometimes I forget King‘s roots in classic horror, & maybe he does, too. But then a vampire or ghost or zombie will show up, & remind me all over again that he IS trying to scare the hell outta me😱

GarthRanzz I think people tend to forget King wrote one of the best modern vampire books ever. And he did it using the classic version which, to me, are the scariest ones. 6y
Sweettartlaura @GarthRanzz Yeah, I love that his vampires don‘t “sparkle” 😏 6y

The coolest thing about this graphic novel is that the writers alternate between Scott Snyder and Stephen King. At first I was skeptical that I may like one‘s writing style more than the other, especially since I‘m already a huge Stephen King fan but that wasn‘t the case at all. They did a fantastic job in the writing style and the illustrations to make the story lines differ but be similar enough that it doesn‘t take you out of the story.

This was sooo good! I love Stephen King's intro to this graphic novel: "Here's what vampires shouldn't be: pallid detectives who drink Bloody Marys and only work at night; lovelorn southern gentlemen; anorexic teenage girls; boy-toys with big dewy eyes. What should they be? Killers, honey"

GarthRanzz I seriously loved the first collection. Still need to read the rest of the series. 7y
CoffeeCatsBooks @GarthRanzz Yeah, I keep starting new series and have a couple others I need them catch up on, as well. 7y

This is the first comic I have ever read and I am so glad I started with this one. The art work by Rafael Albuquerque is spectacular... and the writing from Scott Snyder and Stephen King is gripping. I can't wait to read more in this series.
