Wychwood
Wychwood | George Mann
7 posts | 4 read | 10 to read
After losing her job and her partner in one fell swoop, journalist Elspeth Reeves is back in her mothers house in the sleepy Oxfordshire village of Wilsby-under-Wychwood, wondering where it all went wrong. Then a body is found in the neighbouring Wychwoods: a woman ritually slaughtered, with cryptic symbols scattered around her corpse. Elspeth recognizes the symbols from an ancient local myth of the Carrion King, a Saxon magician who once held a malevolent court deep in the Wychwoods. As more murders follow, Elspeth joins her childhood friend DS Peter Shaw to investigate, and the two discover sinister village secrets and dark forces harking back decades.

This was pretty predictable for someone who reads a lot of crime fiction, but it's told engagingly enough that I stayed on board. Good quick read for me, too -- if it took me more than two hours, I'd be surprised.

Finding this a tad predictable in many ways, but I've read half of it in a day, so I can't complain! It's been nice to just settle in and read. I'm trying to get back to setting aside more of my time for reading.

How about one of these three for #TeamCthulhu? I'm leaning towards Wychwood because I ♥♥♥ Mann's Newberry & Hobbes series.
The Creature is only 198 pages while The String Diaries is over 400. I'm excited about reading any of these.

Sophoclessweetheart @Cathythoughts It did. After four failed attempts with other books. For that reason alone I couldn't recommend it enough x 7y

• We're having such a hot day here today which is weird considering all summer the weather has been rainy and now autumn is on its way we get a heatwave? Really? Anyway, it's too hot to be outside and the babies are amusing themselves so I'm going to go ahead and read more Wychwood. Only six days left until our holiday ✨#wychwood #georgemann #booksofinstagram #bookstagram #igreads #bookishfeatures #booklover #bookblogger #bibliophile

• I'm halfway through Elephants Can Remember and aside from Christie am still suffering a semi-slump over my reads. I've decided to make the record by reading THREE books at once (!!!) and starting the ARC of Wychwood by George Mann I have the pleasure of reading thanks to @titan_books (Thank you so much). It sounds so exciting. The book releases September 12th. ✨#Wychwood #gerogemann #booklover #bookblogger #bibliophile #bookishfeatures
