Another #MiddleGrade finished this month! I love that Mamie (named after the First Lady) chose Michael Collins to write to out of the 3 Apollo 11 astronauts. He was the best - in her words - because he stayed with the ship. Mamie‘s adventures and circumstances that she experienced that summer were also incredible. Her bff Buster really was the best! #32 #BookSpin #15 #BFC22 #20in4 #PANTONE2022 #Blueberry #MGMsrchThroughTime #MiddleGradeMarch
This was cute. I liked the relationship the main character had with her best-friend/neighbor. There was quite a bit of interesting Apollo 11 trivia. However, the resolution was a bit too speedy.
I Love You, Michael Collins by Lauren Baratz-Logsted is a beautifully written story of hope during a major event in American History. When prompted to write letters to the Apollo 11 astronauts, Mamie Anderson writes to Michael Collins. As the story unfolds, they‘re lives seems to be similar in many ways, why do you think that is? This story tells of story of friendship and hope.
Book 7 of 2020 #ILoveYouMichaelCollins by Lauren Baratz-Logsted - This book is sweet and funny and charming and delightful! At the same time the Apollo 11 mission is happening, Mamie‘s parents have left, one after the other, and she is rocketed into her own drama. Love this one - highly recommend!4 ⭐️ (Caveat - I‘m an English teacher, so my reading list this year is likely to be riddled with lots of middle grades and YA reads!)
It's the summer of 1969 and Mamie's life is falling apart. Writing to astronaut Michael Collins (the best one) Mamie recounts her own story on the backdrop of the Apollo 11 lunar landing.
"So one country wins the space race. Big deal. If the two countries are on the brink of war later, do you think the country that loses the space race will suddenly say, 'Oh, I'm sorry. My mistake. You're so much better than we are because you won the space race. We can't possibly fight with you. We'd only lose.' Of course not." ??
