Isle of Blood and Stone is a really pleasant twist on the secret royalty story. The character and world building is excellent and the writing is sophisticated without excluding the younger reader. There is a romance but it is not central or explicit in anyway. 4/5 Stars

4.5 ⭐. This one really surprised me. There were moments where I though "oh here comes the typical #YA moment" only for it to be something unexpected. It's also slower paced but full of so much character development and worldbuilding that I didn't mind. If I had to complain, I couldn't get behind the main couple (not a fan of the girl) and #cries, why you hurt my heart?! Reads like a standalone

Sneaking in a chapter at a time, trying to make The Burning Maze last as long as I can, trying to make some headway on The Son of Neptune which I started too long ago to remember, and started Isle of Blood and Stone tonight...

This is why I'm usually a monogamous reader. Too much pressure! 😆

Royalty, family secrets, maps and riddles, distant lands, kidnapping and murder, mystery, and political intrigue make up the bones of this YA fantasy and if the packaging is familiar it is nevertheless fairly well executed in this fun, quick read. I liked the main characters—though I would have liked a little more depth—and the emphasis on mapping and exploration was also fun. (Great cover too!) Borrow it from the library or grab while on sale.

Going with a new-ish YA book for the next read. Murdered princes, mysterious maps, secrets and adventures. Need something to tide me over until a weekend of travel which will necessitate the selection of a book or two specifically for the trip. Anyone else do that, pick books just for a trip? I never take a book I‘ve already started. I imagine/hope I‘m not the only one who does that! 😊
