Unfortunately...I just couldn't keep going with this book. I thought maybe it was just a slow build but it never managed to capture my attention and there are so many other things I can be reading! It makes me sad though because I enjoyed so many of his other works. Maybe I'll try again in the future.

A pleasant, quick read for anyone who loved the Natural History of Dragons series by Marie Brennan. This quick tale is told through a series of letters with plenty of dry wit. At 17 pages long it makes for a great lunch time read and momentarily takes you back to Scirland and the Victorian(ish) society there. I loved it.

First I have to admit that this book took me a while to get into. I listened to it on audio on my drive to and from work and it was near the end of the 2nd disc that I finally got hooked. But then it was so good! I'd sit in my car after I got home to listen for a good stopping point. The narrative reminded me of Girl On The Train. I did guess the killer but it really kept me intrigued until the end.

I have been obsessed with this series since it came out. I love that the books debut in winter, as the story is set in medieval Russia and it always seems to fit the weather outside my window. Makes for a very comfy reading session. I love the characters. Arden has a gift with description and I haven't fallen in love with a series like this since Marie Brennan's "Natural History of Dragons" series.

So I listened to this book on audio, driving to and from work. I LOVED the beginning, though at times I found the main character to be a bit whiny. Then, halfway through the book, narration switches over to the sister and that took me a while to get used to. I loved the idea and in the end it grew on me. There is a Narnian feel to it; brothers and sisters being pulled into another world during the war. I liked it a lot. I didn't love it.

I found this book to be very interesting. I originally got it for research into a character I was writing. It helped immensely. I definitely recommend this to any explorer or history buff.

Not feeling the best today and so I'm home on the couch with Sophie. I picked up this book recently thinking to do some character research for a novel I've been writing and it's very interesting! It has detailed pages from explorers such as Merriweather Lewis to David Livingstone and Alfred Russell Wallace. It's not all drawings by the way. It explains their trips and their research as well. Definitely worth a peek!

This book was so good! Gothic and eerie this book was right up my alley. I listened to it on audio on my drives to and from work and it kept me intrigued the entire time. I'm quickly becoming a huge fan of Diane Setterfield!

This was...cute? Lol it feels odd putting it that way. A wonderful adventure/comic/D&D mash up.
After reading the forward by Patrick Rothfuss I had to go and listen to the origins of this graphic novel; a podcast that goes by the same name. That, I must say, added a whole new level of depth for me. I recommend it!

Finished this fantastic little novella yesterday. I know I'm reading the series backwards but I work at a library and it was recommended to me by a patron to read this one first. I tried it. And I love Jack and Jill. I love Dr. Bleak and the moors and the mood and everything about this wonderful little tale. It's a bit dark a times, like all the best fairytales but I enjoyed every page and the pacing was perfect.

It is 12 degrees outside but I'm thankful for warm quilts, snuggle kitties and a great book to read.
If you're traveling for the holiday, stay safe! I'm lucky to be heading just across town, where my Grandmother still hosts a wonderful family dinner. 🦃

Overall, I really liked this book. It simultaneously satisfied my love for history and for adventure. It was, however, a slow read for me. I could only read it in 30-50 page chunks before feeling like I was bogged down with information. I'm not normally a nonfiction girl but this was right up my alley.
This side of American history is really quite fascinating and the book ties in with what is happening in the rest of the world at the time.

In truth, I'd probably give this book 4 stars. So maybe I should have said it was a pick for me? Either way...this was a bit darker than I remember it being. Especially for a kids book. Lots of humor though and I certainly appreciate Roald Dahl's style. It was very imaginative and I'll definitely be reading it again, hopefully to my kids some day.

Today has been an excellent day to cozy up and read. Soph has been keeping me company as I read The Witches and eat Halloween candy. Feeling totally relaxed (though a bit sugar high) on this rainy Sunday.

This book had some fantastic information. It covers 80 books that were remarkably influential or particularly beautiful in nature. I loved the segments on The Books of The Dead, The Book of Kells and Darwin's On the Origin of Species. There were many more too, such as Alice in Wonderland, Le Petite Prince and the Gutenberg Bible. Check it out if you love books 😉

I loved this little book! While written for a younger crowd, I think any writer could devine numerous tidbits of useful information from these pages. It is written in a conversational tone and writing exercises are provided, based on the chapters. Great for budding writers!

I need a break from all the fiction I've been reading recently. A need to "cleanse the palate," as it were. So I'm looking forward to reading this book, because I've always loved stories of pirates and the sea. ?☠

Stayed up past midnight finishing this book last night. Overall I loved it. Her wording is lovely and the descriptions felt like poetry. I didn't always agree with the main character, I felt she was a bit self righteous. Certain parts of the book felt rushed. But then there were those gorgeous, well thought out sections and they totally won me over. I'll miss the Spring Court. It was the perfect farie palace.
