From #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts comes a thrilling contemporary romance that burns with all the brilliance and fire of a finely cut diamond(Publishers Weekly). Antiques dealer Laine Tavish is an ordinary woman living an ordinary life. At least, that's what everyone in the small town of Angel's Gap, Maryland, thinks. They have no idea that she used to be Elaine O'Hara, the daughter of a notorious con man... Laine's past catches up with her when one of Big Jack's associates turns up in her shop with a cryptic warning and is then run down in the street. Now the next target of a ruthless killer, Laine teams up with sexy PI Max Gannon to find out who's chasing her, and why. The anwer lies in a hidden fortune that will change Laine's life forever... Dont want the story to end? Look for Big Jack by #1 New York Times bestselling author J. D. Robb and continue the adventure with Lieutenant Eve Dallas. Hot Rocks was previously published in Remember When From the Paperback edition.

#IDLR #InDeathLongReadalong Hot Rocks Ch.9-end: Ok, Max definitely grew on me. Although they had a whirlwind romance it felt real the more they went through together and hit me in the feels. @LiseWorks made a good point last week: Laine and Max are like Eve and Roarke - one used to be a con, a grifter and has a past and one works for the other side of the law. How interesting to have it gender swapped in Laine and Max‘s case. ⬇️

StayCurious I‘m so curious to see how the story will continue in the In Death universe. Will it be about Crew‘s son? Does he have the diamonds? Is he like his father? We‘ll read the first half of Big Jack this upcoming week and find out more. (edited) 2w
ShananigansReads I was highly suspicious of Max but in the end he and Laine did seem to be a great couple. I'm glad it all worked out for them. 1w

TheAromaofBooks I really enjoyed this one. Even though the romance was super fast, it still somehow felt believable and like Laine and Max were a good match. I'm super curious to see how it ties into Eve in the future!! 1w
LiseWorks Yes, I loved this one, fast pace with a few surprises along the way 1w
Ddzmini I have to agree with the above post as it seems fast … but this was written when romance was made to move fast and it is a shorter book so I can understand the need to speed up the romance 1w

#InDeathlongReadalong #IDLR Hot Rocks Ch.1-8: in this first book by Roberts, we dive into a world of cons and ex cons and families and hidden secrets and identities and love and shame. It‘s complicated. Laine Tavish and Max Gannon‘s lives are complicated. Laine is hiding from her past in small town USA and it comes to the forefront when she witnesses her father - criminal Big Jack O‘Hara‘s partner die in front of her antiques store. ⬇️

StayCurious Then her house is ransacked. Who did it and what were they looking for? Both Laine and Max want to know. And she develops feelings for Max, who is pretending to be in Insurance but who is really a PI looking into her dad. Like I said it‘s complicated. I‘m not sure I like Max for sleeping with Laine without being honest with her. But she kept things from him as well so…yeah, on the fence about these two as a couple. Thoughts? 2w
LiseWorks I find it interesting that Max here used to he a cop, while Laine used to be a pick pocket. It kind of correlates with Eve and Roark. Eve the cop and Roarke the pick pocket. 2w

Ddzmini I haven‘t read this since it came out and forgot how good it was so I‘m really looking forward to seeing what happens next 2w
TheAromaofBooks I think I would have more reservations if Max had been the one to seduce Laine, but he was actually ready to get out of town because he didn't feel comfortable continuing his relationship with her under the circumstances, so I feel like I can give him a little more leeway when she showed up at his door and was pretty clear about what she was hoping would happen 😂 I'm enjoying this one - pacy and engaging. And I love Laine's best friend, too! 2w
ShananigansReads @LiseWorks I didn‘t even think of that. I‘m just concerned how their relationship is going to go when it comes to her dad. Also, when is this set? It seems contemporary but in Death is set in the future. Guess I just need to hold my horses and see how it relates. (edited) 2w
StayCurious @ShananigansReads I‘m pretty sure it‘s set in 2003 when it came out but I may be wrong 2w
StayCurious @TheAromaofBooks you‘re absolutely right 2w
StayCurious @LiseWorks that‘s a great link 2w
Read4life @ShananigansReads It‘s set in 2003. The second part/story continues the story and takes place in the In Death time. 2w

This was written 2003 I‘m not sure why or how I muse this but it‘s connected to another book on Eve Dallas so I read this first and enjoyed the book 📖😊
