🌟🌟🌟.5 This 11th book in a series is actually a prequel, allowing me to try the series w/ a recent book. Initially I found MC Charles Lenox a bit cold. He's a young aristocrat trying his hand as a private detective. The main mystery was interesting as 2 women are found dead & there wasn't much science in 1850. I warmed up to a Lenox & his manservant/friend Graham by the end. I would read earlier books. #bookspinbonanza TheAromaofBooks
A slow start, but it really picked up the pace at the end! And, this was a lovely look into his “youth” and how he started as a private detective.
With 2 hours of the #24B4Monday #Readathn to go I am going to finish off the Readathon by completing Murder on Gramecy Park (1 hr 15 left) and starting The Woman in the Water (a prequel to the Charles Lennox Series).
Still got 75 miles of the journey home to go, but stopped for a cup of tea!
Currently at 28 hours 17 minutes and trying to get to 30 hours!
My commute listen- only 7.5 hours so almost done. This is a Charles Lenox Mystery prequel to the regular series when Lenox is only 24 years old and unmarried. Meet Hugo and Graham early on and see the beginnings of their relationships. Nice plotting and great narrator in James Langton.
This is my new answer for anything I don‘t want to do: “The duties of that position would defeat me completely”
So I was lucky enough to meet the handsome and charming Charles Finch today at a book signing for his new book, The Woman in the Water.
There‘s something about the Holmes/Watson Victorian mystery type tales that readers can‘t get enough of. Like my handbags, I‘m not into a cheap knock-off. So when this relationship is done WELL, I‘m sold. 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ for fast-paced detective sleuthing at its best. This is my first introduction to the Charles Lenox series which opens in 1850 London, England. Well-plotted, this mystery is engaging and I‘m curious to see where the next ten books in the series goes!
