“A man from the town of Neguà, on the coast of Columbia, could climb into the sky.
On his return, he described his trip. He told how he had contemplated human life from on high. He said we are a sea of tiny flames.
“The world,” he revealed, “is a heap of people, a tiny sea of tiny flames.”
Each person shines with his or her own light. No two flames are alike. There are big flames and little flames, flames of every color.” #flames

#ReadingResolutions Day 30: This #BookQuote is from my recently-read Galeano which just shows how I am suffering from withdrawal pangs. I also shared this quote with my graduate students last night during class as they study “objectivity” in research. Galeano dismantles all that as mere BS. :)

#QuotsyMarch18 Day 24: Galeano speaks about social #justice or the lack of it like no other. Reading him is like eating a hearty meal of beef pochero after being fed cotton candy, fluff, and air for the longest time. Reading his words nourishes, invigorates, and empowers.

Congratulations, @robinb on your Litsy milestone and thank you for hosting #alltherightstuffgiveaway - these three novels here nourished my love for the written word, filled my soul during moments when I ached for beauty and truth. These are the kinds of novels that make you look up at the world, marveling at its grandeur and complexity and all its transient beauty.

Readergrrl Is one of my favorite books!!! Each sentence is like eating candy! Meant to be savored! 6y
Cathythoughts I loved the Elegance of the Hedgehog ❤️ 6y

#QuotsyMarch18 Day 4: This, right here, is the antithesis of #Special - the Nobodies - the disenfranchised - the unnamed - the dispensable. Galeano is such a powerful author. I am so glad that my #LitWorld2018GB has led me to Uruguay to read such searing truths told in a pragmatic, seemingly-offhand manner - but always burning with rage and embraces.

batsy 💚💚💚 Love this. Honestly I have no idea why I haven't read Galeano yet. 6y
GatheringBooks @batsy he is pretty difficult to come by - this copy, for instance, is not even available here in our libraries, had to purchase it from BookDep. 6y

My literary voyage has now taken me to my 17th country in February - Uruguay! Perfect for #LitWorld2018GB (never too late to sign up - book prizes up for grabs and open internationally) and our #ContoursOfLove Reading theme at GatheringBooks til end of March.
