A Double Life
A Double Life | Flynn Berry
A gripping, intense, stunningly written novel of psychological suspense from the award-winning author of Under the Harrow Claire is a hardworking doctor living a simple, quiet life in London. She is also the daughter of the most notorious murder suspect in the country, though no one knows it. Nearly thirty years ago, while Claire and her infant brother slept upstairs, a brutal crime was committed in her family's townhouse. Her father's car was found abandoned near the English Channel the next morning, with bloodstains on the front seat. Her mother insisted she'd seen him in the house that night, but his powerful, privileged friends maintained his innocence. The first lord accused of murder in more than a century, he has been missing ever since. When the police tell Claire they've found her father, her carefully calibrated existence begins to fracture. She doesn't know if she's the daughter of a murderer or a wronged man, but Claire will soon learn how far she'll go to finally find the truth.

I have a problem. I went to Dollar General to get snack because my husband finished mine. While getting snacks I saw these 3 lonely books, all by themselves. These were not book that I had on my "to buy" list, they just looked lonely and at $1 for a book I bought them.

ShyBookOwl My husband eats my snacks too. At least you got books out of it 😅 3y

This was such a good book! It was well paced and sets up the characters and plot evenly. I really felt connected with Claire as a narrator & was rooting for her. There were some surprises too! It would make a good movie, although I know it‘s inspired by a true case. Definitely read this one! I love Berry‘s work so much! I‘ve already read her other 2 books & can‘t wait for her next one!

This book was inspired by one of the most notoriously unsolved crimes of the 20th century - the Lord Lucan case. It is a gripping, intense and stunningly written novel of psychological suspense. Claire is a hardworking doctor living a simple, quiet life in London. Her father tried to kill her mother but killed the nanny who resembled her. Claire's father has been missing ever since.

EadieB 30 years later, the police tell Claire that they may have found him. Claire investigates where her father may have escaped to and finds him in Hvar Island near Croatia. I enjoyed this book as I went to Hvar Island in 2014 when I found family in Croatia as my grandfather left there 100 years ago in 1914 at the start of WW1. I found the book to be a page-turner and a reflection on women and violence. Highly recommend. 3y

This book was terrible! So little character development and the story not spaced out enough. Way too much time spent on mindless crap and then a rushed ending.

Mehso-so

Flynn Berry‘s literary psychological thriller is a shallow affair that‘s inspired by the Lord Lucan affair but while I believed in Claire‘s obsession with knowing the truth, she never really engages with other characters sufficiently enough to make her seem rounded and her “investigation” is driven by chance and happenstance until an abrupt ending that I found very unsatisfying.

Finished this last night, but got busy, so here's what I thought. It was just meh to me. The last part picked up, but overall it was just so-so.

This book had some highs and lows. That last section of the book was really good. It was an interesting read knowing this is based loosely on a true story.

Received on #netgalley in exchange for my review. I love her writing and her first book, which was not a typical thriller. This book has a lot of that same intensity without the usual ploys - until the ending. 26 years after a murder, the MC is looking for her father, who is believed to have committed it. She assumes a fake identity and does her own detective work to find him. She engages in a lot of dubious behavior to find him. 3.5⭐️

ARC from First To Read, Penguin. WOW!! This is one intense and compelling thriller. I was pulled in from the first page and pushed out at the end. It is a fast, short read, with an ending I did not see coming. It‘s not that it‘s a complicated plot, it‘s just that I didn‘t see the twist. The wrap up may have been a bit too neat, but it was satisfying. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #8INTWO #25INFIVE

Oh. My. God. This book was amazing. Inspired by a famous real life murder case in England but I'm not spilling the beans. It took me all of 6 hours to read (and that's work reading, not fun reading.) And sorry but unless you manage to score an ARC, you have to wait till July. But it will be so worth the wait.

TricksyTails This sound interesting! I think you‘d like this @MinDea! 6y
