Excursion to Tindari
Excursion to Tindari | Andrea Camilleri
4 posts | 8 read | 6 to read
Following the long-running success he has enjoyed on bestseller lists in Europe, Inspector Salvo Montalbano is now winning over American readers and critics alike as one of the most engaging protagonists in detective fiction (USA Today). Now, in Excursion to Tindari, Andrea Camilleris savvy and darkly comic take on Sicilian life leads Montalbano into his most bone-chilling case yet. In two seemingly unrelated crimes, a young Don Juan is found murdered and an elderly couple is reported missing after an excursion to the ancient site of Tindari. As Montalbano works to solve both cases, he stumbles onto Sicilys ghastly new age of brutal and anonymous criminality.

A young Don Juan is found murdered in front of his apartment building early one morning, and an elderly couple is reported missing after an excursion to the ancient site of Tindari - two seemingly unrelated cases for Inspector Montalbano to solve amid the daily complications of life at Vigàta police headquarters.

EadieB But when Montalbano discovers that the couple and the murdered young man lived in the same building, his investigation stumbles onto Sicily's brutal 'New Mafia', which leads him down a path more evil and more far-reaching than any he has been down before.
The fifth in the hit Italian crime series, Excursion to Tindari is another darkly comic detective story featuring Inspector Montalbano.

Andrew65 You are ploughing through these. 🎄🎄🎄 2y
EadieB Camilleri deals with the Mafia in this one but it is the new mafia not following the old rules. There is mystery and humor in this book along with snappy dialogue. I look forward to reading the sixth book in the series. The Scent of Night. If you love books of police procedural with laughter, then you would love these books. 2y

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ maybe his best so far, book 5. A man is murdered in front of his apartment, a husband and wife are missing from same apartment building. Thus starts the tale. Montalbano untangles a tale of love, lies, and crime families of Sicily. I could quote Salvo all day long. His inner thoughts and his strange ways are so amusing and special. I'm going to try to slow down on this series and savor, but it's so hard!

NeedsMoreBooks This sounds intriguing. What is the first book to read? 5y
Crazeedi @NeedsMoreBooks the first book, it was good, but they get better as you go, like most series 5y

That was when the devil the one with with the capital D materialized beside Montalbano. Invisible to all present except to Montalbano, he was wearing his traditional costume...the inspector felt his fiery sulphurous breath burn his left ear.".let them get to know each other better"....Montalbano bowed to his will ❤❤❤ Camilleri's descriptive writing, I laughed out loud!

Crazeedi @Andrew65 have I told you thank you for introducing me to this delicious delightful series? I can't get enough of it, and I'm so sad already mourning the authors passing. I just crack up at montalbano 5y

Arrived in Toronto after epic flight, 4 planes 5 airports. Read this on on first 2 legs. Bit disappointed, not as good as others by AC that I have read and an inappropriate reference to Australian Indigenous people (maybe a translation error)

CarolynM Oooh, I must have missed that reference. I'm going to see if I can find it 6y
