Mile 81 is Stand by Me meets Christinethe story of an insatiable car and a heroic kid. At Mile 81 on the Maine turnpike is a boarded up rest stop, a place where high school kids drink and get into the kind of trouble high school kids have always gotten into. Its the place where Pete Simmons goes when his older brother, whos supposed to be looking out for him, heads off to the gravel pit to play paratroopers over the side. Pete, armed only with the magnifying glass he got for his tenth birthday, finds a discarded bottle of vodka in the boarded up burger shack and drinks enough to pass out. Not much later, a mud-covered station wagon (which is strange because there hadnt been any rain in New England for over a week) veers into the Mile 81 rest area, ignoring the sign that says closed, no services. The drivers door opens but nobody gets out. Doug Clayton, an insurance man from Bangor, is driving his Prius to a conference in Portland. On the backseat are his briefcase and suitcase and in the passenger bucket is a King James Bible, what Doug calls the ultimate insurance manual, but it isnt going to save Doug when he decides to be the Good Samaritan and help the guy in the broken down wagon. He pulls up behind it, puts on his four-ways, and then notices that the wagon has no plates. Ten minutes later, Julianne Vernon, pulling a horse trailer, spots the Prius and the wagon, and pulls over. Julianne finds Doug Claytons cracked cell phone near the wagon door and gets too close herself. By the time Pete Simmons wakes up from his vodka nap, there are a half a dozen cars at the Mile 81 rest stop. Two kids Rachel and Blake Lussier and one horse named Deedee are the only living left. Unless you maybe count the wagon.

1️⃣ Stephen King.
2️⃣ In bed at night.
3️⃣ No, I'm not really sure what a readathon is?

Thanks for the tag @Ast_Arslan 🙋‍♂️

#WondrousWednesday @Eggs

wanderinglynn A readathon is a set time period, like 24-hours or 3 days where you read as much as possible. Some readathons have time goals, like in 3 days, log 24-hours of reading. Some readathons you set your own goal. It‘s just a fun way to read as much as you can within a designated time. Check out @LitsyEvents to see who‘s hosting one. Readathons happen pretty regularly here. 3y
Eggs Thanks for playing 😍 3y

This is a Stephen King novella that you are going to either love or hate. I personally quite enjoyed it. It amazes me how he can take the most mundane things and turn it into something so disturbing. 4⭐️

Mehso-so

I just can‘t get behind these vehicular villains, Steve. HOWEVER, it was worth the read for The Dune- an exquisite short story that felt like an episode of The Twilight Zone. #stephenking #mile81 #thedune #horror

I haven't listened to any #audiobooks of King's stories, but I might have to listen to this one, just because Edward Herrmann reads "The Dune." #StephenKing17

Weird book that never really goes anywhere. And the villain... Geez that was lame.

Creptastic! Christine meets Desperation meets Cujo. This one had me on the edge of my seat and I couldn't put it down. I rushed through it to know how it ended. Another knock out! 4/5
