100 easy and delicious meals on a tight budget with Jack Monroe's A Girl Called Jack. Jack is a cash-strapped single mum living in Southend. When she found herself with a shopping budget of just 10 a week to feed herself and her young son, she addressed the situation with immense resourcefulness, creativity and by embracing her local supermarket's 'basics' range. She created recipe after recipe of delicious, simple and upbeat meals that were outrageously cheap. Learn with Jack Monroe's A Girl Called Jack how to save money on your weekly shop whilst being less wasteful and creating inexpensive, tasty food. Recipes include Vegetable Masala Curry for 30p a portion, Pasta alla Genovese for 19p a portion, Fig, Rosemary and Lemon Bread for 26p and a Jam Sponge reminiscent of school days for 23p a portion. Finding herself with a food budget of just 10 a week, she began to create nutritious recipes to feed herself and her son. Giving the recipes out to a local food bank, to help others in her situation, she then began to publish them online on her blog, A Girl Called Jack, which now has thousands of followers. Jack was awarded the 2013 Fortnum and Mason Judges' Choice Award for the impact that her blog has had. She lives in Essex with her son.

A cookbook for #adventrecommends day 18! (I‘m a bit behind thanks to visits).

A genuine budget cookbook from someone who‘s actually lived on the poverty line, unlike a lot of the ‘cheap eats‘ books out there (do not get me started). The recipes are great, the costs are even better; the banana bread is delicious.

My first time cooking from a recipe book! I‘m a rubbish cook and I think I‘m starting later than some people, I‘m 23 but I lived pretty solidly in accommodation with no kitchens from the age of 18 till last year. I get a bit disheartened by being a slow starter but sometimes I produce edible things and I‘m trying really hard. It‘s important to me to learn to cook and have some real practical skills. This is a peach and white chocolate tray cake

Jilly6183 When my husband and I started dating, he set off the smoke detector trying to fry an egg. He was 28. And now he's the best cook I know. So 23 is not late at all. Keep at it! 6y

Tamra Cooking is hands on learning and you can totally do it! I was about your age when I got into cooking via PBS cooking shows because I was bored and now I love to cook. Go for it! You‘ll make mistakes, we all do because it‘s lifelong learning, but that‘s okay! It should be fun and immersive no matter the end product. 😋 6y

audraelizabeth Dont worry, I turn 30 this year, i can cook 6 things well but can read a recipe. My grandma turns 81 this year and cant make gravy. 6y

I‘m having trouble focusing on reading at the moment, I‘ve started several books but can‘t seem to stay focused so I thought I‘d share this link about a project that has warmed my heart https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/aug/15/man-feeds-hungry-kids-hate... The tagged book is by the amazing jack monroe who was living in poverty and came up with these recipes to feed her and her child for (c8 a week!

Weaponxgirl @Dogearedcopy yes I see them as needed at the moment but I hate the fact that they are needed and being used as an example by Tories of how generous a nation we are. I just loved that this guy was trying to bring back dignity both for the people using his service and the people who work for him having a living wage. 7y
