🎧 I It‘s medieval UK & the TARDIS materializes in what seems to be a deserted town. It‘s not. The residents are just afraid of the Devil‘s Hunters”.

The 10th Doctor quickly realizes there‘s good reason to fear these monsters.

Enjoyable story. Poor editing.

Not fond of unfamiliar temporary companions so some star reduction. The narrator didn‘t do the Doctor justice. He‘s a good narrator he just didn‘t get the Doctor‘s mannerisms?

The story itself is fine, with a good spin on the Krillitane. However, there are some shocking proofreading errors (the yolk of fear?!), and I had a bone to pick with the historical context. I don't think the Doctor would have seen the Empress Matilda as "trying to steal" Stephen's throne; I imagine he would just see the Anarchy as a civil war. Also didn't Henry I WANT Matilda to rule, & his barons disobeyed his wishes?

Dogearedcopy I would definitely recommend ‘When Christ and the Saints Slept‘) by Sharon Kaye Penman) - which, though a historical novel written by an American, gives a much more nuanced, sympathetic (to Maude anyway), and realistic feel to this time and place in history. Also, no “yolks of fear” which I‘m still contemplating. Maybe if you‘re a vegan? 😂

rabbitprincess @Dogearedcopy Yes! That is an excellent (eggscellent?!) recommendation. I read it a few years ago as part of a Category Challenge group read and loved it. Reminds me I should get back to her books... 6y

rwmg I keep meaning to add When Christ to my wishlist. You could also trythe Brother Cadfael series. Maud and Stephwn start in book 2 6y
