I‘d be lying if I said this book didn‘t keep me up last night. I had a hard time sleeping after finishing just the first 3 chapters. I knew it would be a hard one for me, but I‘ve wanted to read it for a while now.

Some of you may know that my husband is an underground miner. I often mention that he‘s gone for 2 weeks at a time. He was recently promoted to blaster, and I feel better knowing that such an important and dangerous position ⬇️

Clwojick ... is being filled by such a smart, level headed person. I know that the mine is in good hands with him being trained in one of the more serious positions. While I‘ve always known that his mine is always SAFTEY FIRST #TIL that some mines could care less about the safety of their miners. I want to continue with the book, my my heart is hurting. 😞 (edited) 5y

alisiakae I knew your spouse worked away from home for weeks at a time, but didn‘t know it was in a mine. Congrats on the promotion for him! I‘m sure you are a source of strength for him too. 💜 5y
Clwojick @4thhouseontheleft I certainly try to be! I‘m grateful that his mine is only 2 hours from home, and that his mine takes all levels of safety procedures seriously. ♥️ 5y
Clwojick @Bookwormjillk always! ♥️thank you 5y

I'm three quarters of the way through this (listening whilst home decorating). It gives an overview of the Chilean miners trapped in 2010 rather than one person's story, which means it lacks the personal touch & emotional punch but I'm still enjoying it.

The is well researched, interesting and dynamic story of the experiences of everyone involved in the rescue of the 33 Chilean miners. From the families and the miners themselves, to the diggers and government officials. It is fascinating learning how everyone coped with those 69 days of uncertainty, all the way to the thankfully happy ending. A good news story.

This book is AMAZING and completely fascinating! One of the best books I have read this year. Cried, danced, shook my head. So good! I could not put it down for the last two days.

Autumn How does this compare to Deep Down Dark? 8y
BookMusings I haven't read it, but by the synopsis it sounds like it would be a lot more focused on the emotional journeys of the miners and their families. 33 Men had that too, but a lot of the focus was on the rescuers instead. 8y
BookMusings @Autumn I'll read that one too I'm sure :) 8y
