Trying to finish my 2nd book for #foodandlit before #Vietnam ends today but I don‘t think I‘m going to be able to keep my eyes open after the past three night shifts (and one more tonight) 🧟‍♀️🌑🚑🚔. Not as good as “ Paradise of the Blind” but still interesting.

This book was amazing! It wasn't a really quick read because it was much more about the characters and scene setting rather than plot driven. Normally I don't go for that kind of book but this one was so good! This follows one north Vietnamese soldier through the battles he fights and his trip back home for a short leave. To quote from the jacket Huong (the author) "powerfully conveys the conflict that spiritually destroyed her generation."

Met requirements for Popsugar and @bookriot lists. Enjoyed/moved more than I anticipated.

A novel about Vietnam from the perspective of a 28 year old who joined what he saw (ten years prior) as the great cause of the Communists. I love books about less familiar (to American) perspectives & this book does not hold back. Not about battles but people being defeated by ideologies. SO GOOD.
